hi all, i wish that i could send each of u a cure for rsd as a christmas gift........since i can't do that, i'm going to pass along some of my favorite ideas for adding a tiny bit of comfort to daily life (the long-time members have heard this before, but we have lots of new folks this year so i feel justified in repeating it)........isn't that a sneaky way to avoid saying i'm s*rry for repeating myself? i'm a licensed esthetician, and skin care is the only thing i really know, but maybe these hints will be helpful with general winter skin care: WEAR SUNBLOCK YEAR ROUND!...it helps prevent wind burn and chapping too. don't spend a fortune on moisturizers......there r some very good products in drugstores and supermarkets.......anything with collagen in it is good........collagen binds 40 times its own weight in water to your skin and water is what keeps your skin moist -- oils just help hold the moisture in. put lotion on when your skin is damp...... the idea is to keep that moisture IN your skin. quick relief for dry hands........if you're going to be just sitting (watching tv, for instance), put lotion on hands, wrap in plastic wrap, then add another layer -- i like oven mitts, but wrapping a towel around each hand would work too.......the combination of moisture and warmth should help a bit........vaseline is NOT a good choice for this -- it adds no moisture to the skin tho it does prevent any evaporation of existing moisture. my personal favorite -- since i feel cold all winter long, i tend to take very long, very hot showers which is brutal to skin, so i always slather on body lotion when i dry off, but i hate the feel of cold lotion........i bought a small plastic squirt bottle and i keep it about half full of my favorite lotion -- before i get in the shower, i fill my sink with hot water and put the little bottle in the sink so that by the time i'm ready for it, the lotion is warm and feels wonderful.....this is my idea of luxury (okay, yes, i'm a cheap date -- i admit it!). i hope that some of this will be helpful -- any questions, just ask -- and i also hope that all of u will have a peaceful and happy holiday. my best to all, liz .Get more from the Web.
