Hi ,

When my son just started verbalizing more he did the same thing. Some

kids who display echolia (sp?)do this but I think in that case they

don't understand what they are saying and are just repeating.

In our case it appeared to just be his excitement in hearing himself

speak. It didn't take long for him to stop repeating. What we also

did was make sure we stopped talking before he started talking.

[ ] Question about Apraxia

My son has verbal apraxia. He has just started to repeat everything

we say, even on command. Its amazing!!!! For example if he wants

something, I have him say..... " give it to me " and he says it. Today

I said to him we are eating chicken, rice, and beans and then he

says " chicken, rice, beans, good " . This from a child that as of a

week ago couldn't repeat a one sylable word accurately. Is this a

normal progression with Apraxia? I'm thrilled, but so scared to get

to excited in case this means nothing. Thanks for listening.

that is awesome! I dont know that much about Apraxia either but wished

Sydnie would repeat that. I told someone the other day I didnt care what she

repeated from me as long as she did! lol I dont recommend her hearing me slip

out a word but if she repeated it......so be it! lol

Yay !!! What great news!! Keep up the good work!!!

just one question from me (the obvious of course) Is on

any EFAs and if so which one, what dosage and when did you start him?

That's pretty much the main way this is typical of an apraxic

child. Then again -there is always the exception to the rule!

A thought on " repeating " ....I noticed the apraxia thing going on EARLY with

Jordan...feeding witha spoon was a challenge for him, and I realized then

something was going on...and of course no one listened to me. I bought the

" Baby Einstein " series of videos, and played them for him from a month old...the

visual stimulation was outstanding for infants. The older tapes are just

excellent.... There's a picture..then the word is spoken. Pictures, colors,

shapes...each video has a different theme. Having studied Psych myself, I am in

agreement with the founder of Baby Einstein, Aigner , that the

earliest stages of learning are the foundations. Jordan couldn't say the word

that the TV said..so he'd often make up one he could say...I STILL use them, and

am marveled at how the constant repetition has made a HUGE change in him. The

music on these videos is fabulous...I use the CD's in my car..and marvel at how

he puts the part of the movie together with the corresponding music. These were

just a wonderful part of his language development for me. My pediatrician

doesn't " believe " in apraxia, said its just simply " late talking with a fancy

name'...well good for him, he just lost 3 patients.

I highly recommend these tapes for everyone...they can be purchased

inexpensively through Overstock.com or any toy retailer. They are a pleasure to

watch and truly wonderful to listen to. Really a wonderful way to assist in

language development that your child will enjoy.

Liz,

Thanks for your email. To answer your question, I dont know how I got

started really. Charlie started to talk at 12 months then stopped. BIG red

flag. My son had several ear infrections and his peditrician reccommended

tubes, as we got his hearing checked there was fluid behind his ears left

over from an old ear infection which can only be detected though a hearing

test from an audiologist. We got the tubes and entered speech therapy. After

three to four months in ST, the therapist was getting no where with Charlie.

So my peditrician sent me to a child neurologist. He examined Charlie and

asked me questions and listed to his chest and dx him with " Developmental

Language Disorder " or Apraxia. Confirmed that he is not autistic. Here is

where the kicker came in for me. He told me not to worry about Charlie he

would be fine. Keep him in ST 1x a week and dont get on the Internet and

read all the horrible stuff because Charlie is not that bad. So, I left

feeling good and upbeat. We were on the right track and I was not going to

deviate. Why would I? After all, I come from a family of medical

professionals.

Two months later, at Charlie's 2nd birthday, I started to go with my gut. I

am one to challenge people and perhaps that is why God made me Charlie's

mother. At the same time, we were switching ST. Amy came to offer ST to

charlie she called me and said, do you realize Charlie has verbal and oral

apraxia? So I googled these two things which led me to Cherub.org. I read

about ProEFAs. I literally got out of my desk at work and went to the book

store and purchased THe Late talker. Got a hold of who pointed me in

the direction of other professioanls who have helped me along the way.

I was told to check out this board and on this board I have learned so very

much. My father also is very into vitamin protocols for him self. So I spoke

with his MDs who specialize in Nutrition ( Len & Joe.com - check them out

they are great) . I have respect for MDs and I am working with Biomedical

along with increase ST and OT. I cleaned up his diet for the most part. And

step by step added vitamins and minerals. I also pulled him off of casen.

With the help of Dorfman (kellydorman.com) I was given the right

protocol for vitamins for Charlie. We added Phosphaline which rocks and

continued to see improvement.

I had his labs pulled by the ped. and found he was below normal in zinc and

low side of normal on carnatine. Began supplimenting.

Then we incorporated the DAN! We are now detoxing where he has damange from

the MMR, DPT and HepB. My peditirician is working with me on a SAFER shot

schedule.

In short, I am working with several people MDs maintream, homeopathics,

nutritionist specializing in Apriaxia, and a DAN!

I realize every child is different and this may not work for some but it is

working with my boy. It is difficult running to doc to doc.

I also follow your posts along with Janice's. This board has helped quite a

bit. What is Lymes?

Colleen...

We have twins, I just trusted longer! We had the tube story too but

no infections. My kids were great detoxers but shots and the wrong

diet screwed that up...still no infections though. Viral kids I

think..like me. Lymes is a debilitating disease caused by tic and now

they say mosquitoes. False positives are common in my family,

mainstream treatment is antibiotics for 2 months so I have to be sure

he has it. That means specialized testing that I have to wait for.

Autistics often test positive. Few parents know to do the special

testing so they may get treated for false positives. There has been

some suggestion made to me that Lymes may go along with other A

disorders (apraxia, adhd, etc.) I think we see it in autistics as the

DAN initial testing checks it on them and the other As rarely land at

the Dan.

Hugs and Support going out to you!
