Guest guest
Hi Barbara, I hope everything goes smoothly from here on out for you. You sure have had enough. I hope your infection clears up soon and they finally can straighten out this scs for you. I will be thinking of you. Please write us when you can. Hugs, Deb debgena@... Guest guest
Babs - Not to worry, I realized that your comment about doc/infections wasn't sent with an arrow. I agree about Dr. SpeedyPetey. They are left at the whim of the insurance companies who now apparently dictate the needs of patients. It seems you can approximate how ill you are by how long you stay in the hospital. When I had meningitis and brain surgery I realized afterwards that I must have been a breeze away from death...given that they held onto me for six weeks. It got to the point that I wondered when they were going to give me my own post office box. The turnaround bit on surgeries now is like an accident waiting to happen and the ones on the end of the scalpal bear the ultimate cost. Okay, will get off my soap box now. Still sore but less so. And still frustrated by the positional nature of this thing. Looks like turning my head will serve as an on/off switch !! Hanging in and hoping that you are too. Back to work today (groan). You are brave going back to work this soon. You must still be sore especially with having an infection. I had the same problem with my upper SCS when I got it in. Every time if turned my head or lifted my hear up or down it would make the stimulation stronger or weaker. Took a lot of getting used to. I will tell you this though, it does get better. I still after 12 years of having mine in, get some differences in stimulation when I move my head but not nearly as much as I did when I first got it in. Take care and have a good night. Guest guest
Babs - Thanks for your reply....and, no....I don't hink you're being bossy at all. Even with my SCS jacked up to max, it does not start working AT ALL unless my head is in a certain position (actually I have to put my head down as if looking at my belly button...not typically my focus of visual attention). Even if I put my head down, it cuts out immediately if I put my head too low. The put the pack under my arm, several inches below my armpit because I would get best support for it there (witht he bra holding it in place). They ruled out the over the breast thing becuase, unlike the rest of my body, I have very little flesh there. Will likely add extenders tot he leads and move it to my belly. Re the pain meds thing. I have many drug allergies and sensitivities. Can't take morphine at all and get very ill from the fentanyl patch. Have 135 Percocet here but don't bother taking them since they don't even touch the pain. Pointless.....plus I drive 50 minutes to work each day and work full time. If I found something that gave pain coverage and didn't make me sick or knock me for a loop, I might reconsider. In the meantime, I trudge along. Try to have a good one. Are they 10/650's or are they 10/325's? That right there might make all of the difference in the world with your pain. I started out on 10/650mg's....with Roxicodone 5mg for BT. Well, that didn't really help me either....So, the Doctor changed my dosage to 10/325mg every 4 hours. It helps quite a bit better for me now. I also take 2 Roxicodone 5mg every hour if needed for BT pain. Maybe if your doctor changed your dosage of Percocets to the 325....and added something else for BT pain....like Darvocet or something that you know that you aren't allergic to.....maybe you could take a Percocet before you leave for work, since it usually does take about 30-45 minutes to work....and once you do get to work, you could take your BT med then....? Its just an idea....something that might help you control your pain a bit more, but not interfere with your driving or your job. Guest guest
- At this point they are covering both arms (when it cuts in) but since it is the cervical area it cuts in for the legs as well. They've explained that if my leg gets worse they would just add in more programming for it. Saves me from having anSCS put in for the lower extremities. since the cervical will cover everything on down from the level in which it's implanted. What they've said was if they go with the surgical paddles they will umplant them further into the canal itself. Still don't like the idea but..... barbara
