Hi, you do occasionally decrease enzymes. I have had to do so once before.

You want to do that when you start getting constipated or are going several

days between stools. I was taking 6 with meals and then everything was going

through me, but I went up to 8 and then I was constipated, then I went back

down to 7, so now I am okay.

Hi all! And welcome to all the newcomers to the list! We're up to 72 members

now!

Levi goes to clinic next Thursday, so I'm starting to get jittery about it now.

:/ He's doing well health-wise, except he's got what we (me, my mother,

mother-in-law, father-in-law, and pharmacist) think is ringworm. This sounds

really nasty, but then when you find that there aren't any acutal worms involved

and it's caused by a fungus... okay, it is nasty. But in an over-the-counter

treatable kind of way. :) His local (read: don't know much about cf) doctor

couldn't squeeze him in until Friday (and I called -in a tizzy- on Tuesday for

an immediate appointment), so maybe by then the anti-fungal cream the pharmacist

recomended will kick in and I can cancel the appointment there. (fingers

crossed)

I don't take Levi to the local doc very often since our first visit at two

months when I informed him that Levi has cf. He put his hand on my shoulder and

informed me that, although he would require more care than my other two

children, that we could *manage* his care. !

I don't know if I was just overly sensitive at the time or what, but I took an

immediate dislike to the man who could only " manage " .

Okay, enough on that tangent...

Levi gets a throat culture at every clinic visit at Pittsburgh Children's. If

it's not something scary (and hasn't been so far) they don't even call to notify

what the results are. If I call in, I can ask. (and I do, being the pushy,

overly concerned type that I am.)

When we took him to Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital in Cleveland, they

didn't do a culture every time, but he was just a few months old then, I don't

know if that makes a difference.

I have a question, too, for those who have read this far in this email :).....

how do you know when to REDUCE enzymes??? I know, I know, nobody does this,

they always increase. But Levi has been producing something along the lines of

rabbit turds (yes, that is the medical term for them) and I fear constipation

like some people fear Y2K. I will talk to the doctor (wonderful Dr. Orenstein)

about it next week, but the weekend approaches (when it's hard to get your

favorite doctor on the phone at 2 a.m.) and I want to know what others do when

the little one starts manufacturing tootsie rolls in the diaper.

Enough of my poo-poo talk for now. Levi is awake (still!) and he needs

entertained.
