That is what our school speech therapist gave us to do at home this

summer.

The therapist that our insurance covers didn't think that cutting

and coloring activities were good for speech therapy. Of course, I

think she is a bad therapist.

I think it is okay. An old school therapist also used it, and I've

read a lot about it. My girls are definitely into doing the

activities, and they are very willing to say imitate or do anything

I ask them to do with it.

My daughter Abigail has been using it. Our children's hospital

therapist and school was using the basics from it to teach her.

Both therapist used it in coordination with many other activities

and didn't think much of just doing their activities.

I have made a set of colorful cards for the sounds (and copies

of the vowel turtle sounds) the back of the cards have the hand

signals. When using the hand signals Abigail remembers to do

the sound correctly and when we begin with the vowel sounds

she " opens " her mouth more for the sounds.

We are, of course, on ProEFA as well. Abigail will be 4 July 31st and

was in our First Steps (early intervention till age 3) for about the

last 3 months until 3 (her speech problem wasn't recognized as an

issue until that time inspite of our prompting questions/concerns.)

Just my experience so far.

My son has been using Easy Does It for Apraxia for about 6 months. He is not

moving along very far so we have implemented other things. My son is just now

trying to make sounds in imitation, he is 3 yrs 2 months. I have the Easy Does

It program at home, I purchased it myself to use along with the therapist. It

looks like a good program but we just haven't gotten very far in it yet.

" Easy Does It..Apraxia Preschool " (by Strode and Chamberlain) has been a great

resource for our son. Our therapist has incorporated many ideas from the

curriculum. The hands signals for each sound has been a godsend for and

truly help " cue " the sound for him.

Our slp at All Children's Hospital uses some of " Easy Does It for Apraxia " . She

also uses other techniques as well. has been with her since March of 2001.

He started with her with only about 5 approximations of words. Now he talks in

4 word sentences all the time. We still have a way to come, he is about 70-80%

understandable. But what a difference. had very low facial muscles, she

worked alot on " waking up his mouth " & that seemed to be such a help with the

words. Best wishes, keep us informed.

Hi everyone,

My son Ian is going to st at school for the summer. The therapist

is very nice. I made sure she new what apraxia was and she said she

read up on it when she saw that Ian had it. So I feel he will do

all right for the summer. My question is has anybody heard of " Easy

Does It for Apraxia " ? That is what she is using for him. So far he

is learning the long vowels and it seems to be working. It uses

hand signals for prompting. I was just wondering if anyone knew how

it was and if you liked it.

Thanks,

Alison

Our school speech therapist used it. I don't think it is anything

special, but my girls enjoyed the activities.

My son's preschool special ed ST used the preschooler version, but by the time

my son was 6 he moved into the Kids Apraxia book. I personally found the

preschooler version more fun.
