How is y'all singular? Its an abbreviated form of " you all " like don't is a

shortened form of " do not. " <Cringe> I hate it when non-southerners try to

speak our language. ;)

Fwd: Hickbonics (fwd)

Here's another funny for all y'all (which is grammatically corret Hickbonics

since " y'all " is singular). Again, it's dedicated to " Bubba " Bradford

and " I'm a small town girl with an uptown twirl " Emfinger.

Enjoy!

Rev. McMark

----

The Atlanta school board, learning that Oakland has started labeling

black slang as a language - " Ebonics " - has decided there is a need to

designate southern slang as a geographic language. Ergo, hickphonics,

to be taught in all southern schools - a speaker of this would be a

hickophone.

Here is a sampling from the hickphonics dictionary:

Usage: " heidi. hire yew? "

from him in munts. "

THANK - verb. ability to cognitively process.

Usage: " ah thank ah'll have a bare. "

BARE - noun. an alcoholic beverage.

Usage: " ah thank ah'll have a bare. "

IGNERT - adjective. not smart. see " arkansas native " .

Usage: " some of those bammer boys sure are ignert. "

RANCH - noun. a tool used for tight'nin' bolts.

Usage: " i thank i left me ranch in the back of my pickup truck that my

brother from jawjuh bard a few munts ago. "

ALL - noun. a petroleum-based product.

Usage: " I sure hope my brother from jawjuh puts all in my pickup

truck. "

FAR - noun. a conflagration.

Usage: " if my brother from jawjuh don't change the all in the pickup

truck he bard, that thangs gonna catch far. "

TAR - noun. a rubber wheel.

Usage: " I hope my brother from jawjuh don' git a flat tar in my pickup

truck. "

TARRED - adverb. exhausted.

Usage: " I just flew in from lanna, and boy are my arms tarred. "

FARN - adjective. not from here.

My apologies to you Texas and Southerners who corrected me. A Southerner

(from Etlanta, Jawjuh) told me a long time ago, that " y'all " is singular,

and " all y'all " is plural, and if that's wrong, please accept my apology.

Also, cream gravy on french fries?? YUCK!!! But then again, here in Cali.,

we have a barbecue chicken pizza. So, go figure....

Attaway, na! One of my pet-peeves is seeing

" ya'll, " when every GOOD Texan knows it's " y'all. "

When I was a kid, we went to Canada on vacation. We

stopped at a restaurant, and my older brother was SO

relieved to see, on the menu, a " Texas-style burger. "

It was a burger smothered in GRAVY AND PEAS!! There's

not a Texan anywhere who would eat that crap... and my

brother was NOT happy, haha.

You're forgiven, Mark. I don't know about Jawjuh or anywhere else, but here

we use " y'all " like the way you use " you guys. " I've lived in Texas since I

was 12 and I don't realize how much I use it until I'm around my inlaws. My

husband Brad and his family are from New Mexico, and apparently they don't

say " y'all " there.

YES, cream gravy and french fries. I never would have thought to eat them

with gravy either, but when you have facial palsy, they go down a lot easier

if you dip them in gravy first. :)

WHAT??? Texas doesn't have a California Pizza Kitchen chain?? I thought it

was nationally known??? Oh, you deprived souls!! =( Pizza Hut is okay, but

it tends to be too greasy for me and as Vicki (another So. Californian)

would atest, Portbellow mushrooms with chicken is great! Whenever you're in

Cali. let me know so I could take y'all (heh) to California Pizza Kitchen.

You can use " y'all " Mark and we'll never know you're ribbing us. ;) I never

took you to be a health nut. We don't eat cream gravy and french fries 3

times a day. Chicken and portebello pizza sounds great! We don't have any

really good pizza around here. Even Pizza Hut is lousy. I wish we had a

California Pizza place. Just another one of the perks of living in L.A. I

guess.
