Guest guest
Have you tried short acting insulins yet? Humalog and Novolog? If you're not allergic to them, it seems your best choice might be an insulin pump where you use the short acting insulins throughout the day for all your insulin needs. The short acting insulins don't have the same ingredients that make the insulin be absorbed slowly like the longer acting ones. Just a thought. But, as I understand it, only those who have already had a kidney transplant are eligible. No, thanks. Sandy T1 - 1979
Guest guest
Good point, ! That would make you an inevitable shoo-in for pump approval by your insurance company for sure, Sandy. Guest guest
" Insulin doesn't cure anything anyway " -- what's that supposed to mean, Duncan? Exogenous insulin - the stuff in the bottle a lot of diabetics need to take to maintain normal BGs - isn't meant to cure diabetes. It's only replacing what the body isn't making (in the case of type 1) or isn't utilizing appropriately (type 2, insulin resistance), and it's absolutely essential for normal body function.. Without appropriate insulin in the body, a diabetic has out of control blood sugars and over a long period of time this is what inevitably causes life-threatening complications of heart failure, renal failure, blindness, poor wound healing and possible lower limb amputation, not to mention neuropathy and retinopathy. " Taking steps to reduce the need for exogenous insulin " is simply impossible for many diabetics. Vicki, LADA Re: insulin allergy > >> Have you tried short acting insulins yet? Humalog and Novolog? Guest guest
While I'm currently NOT on insulin, if I ever end up on it (which might well be more a question of 'when') I'd like to go on a pump. At first I thought 'What a HASSLE!' and figured it'd be complicated, etc. Then I met an 8 year old girl during my time doing fundraising for the ADA and for the JDRF. If an 8 year old can have a pump and figure it out, and have an active life, there's no reason I couldn't either!
