It is usually taken one hour prior to the procedure. The American Heart Association ( I think it was them) is expected to recommend possibly as soon as this year that no SBE prophylaxis will be needed for dental procedures. This information came from both her dentist and her cardiologist.
Guest guest
I think it's a reasonable request, although I almost never reply to the list, feeling more comfortable (and I am so used to hitting reply instead of reply all I don't even think about it any more) to respond to just the person. But that's just me. I think I just don't like broadcasting sometimes...not sure why. Maybe it's cuz sometimes I give the wrong answer and I don't want EVERYONE to know I'm a bonehead, but I don't mind if the person I gave the answer to knows it?? I definitely don't do it to leave anyone out. As far as your question about antibiotics: I have absolutely no idea! Maureen Cole, CMT My jewelry website: http://www.angelbugcreations.com A question and a request! Hi, My request is that when people give answers that they please post them to the entire group. I find it frustrating to always having to be contacting the person who posted the original question to ask them to please forward me that answers that they get, since many of them never make it to the group list. I know when I post a question I often get responses to just my email, so the group as a whole doesn't benefit. Then I get people contacting me asking me for the answers to be forwarded to them! I would also ask if anyone who posts a question (unless it is completely off topic) not request people to respond privately to them. I feel like I miss so much when I can't read all the answers to the questions! Is this reasonable of me to ask? If I'm way off base here, please let me know! Thanks! Now, my question: Does anyone know how antibiotics are prescribed for someone having major dental work that has a heart murmur? What I mean is, do you know if they are to be taken both before and after the dental procedure or just before? TIA! S. RT@...

Guest guest
Maureen, LOL...you are too sweet. I have felt the same way and used to often just hit reply, keeping my anwers private as well, but then I decided to try and look at it as a learning experience for all including myself. No one would ever think you were a bonehead. We all make mistakes and that is what learning is all about. I think one could do this job for 20+ years and would have TONS more to learn. > I think it's a reasonable request, although I almost never reply to the > list, feeling more comfortable (and I am so used to hitting reply instead of > reply all I don't even think about it any more) to respond to just the > person. Guest guest
I agree with Valpie. I am always kind of afraid to post to the group because, although I have been doing this over 5 years, I know my knowledge is very limited. However, this is the " New Medical Transcriptionist Group. " You can ask questions here that you can't ask anywhere else. I know I have tried asking questions on other groups and have received no answers at all, just flaming. Anyway, I always post to the group, but if I answer incorrectly, I would appreciate someone setting me straight. From my observation, when it is done here, it is done in a nice way, and I would like to know if I don't understand the correct meaning of a word. And I fully believe the statement about it being possible to do this for 20+ years and still have lots to learn. Guest guest
Oh, I definitely look upon it as a learning experience! As a matter of fact, when I grow up, I want to be just like Margaret, who reminds me of a woman I used to work with, Elaine. I used to affectionately call her the human encyclopedia - cuz she knew everything. My goal was always to try and stump her with SOMETHING! Guest guest
In answer to your question about prophylaxis for dental procedures: I know someone who has to do this and the regimen is usually 10 doses or so spread out over a couple of days before, during and after the procedure. Quixote A question and a request! Hi, My request is that when people give answers that they please post them to the entire group. Guest guest
Yikes! I hope they don't stop the prophylactic antibiotics. I just transcribed a summary on a guy a couple of weeks ago whom they didn't even think to ask about that when he first came in sick. They were giving him the wrong antibiotics thinking he just had the flu or something with the fever he had. Of course it didn't help, and he kept losing weight and getting sicker and sicker until he went to the emergency room and had to have emergency heart surgery because the effusion was so bad his heart barely had room to beat anymore, and they had to do a valve replacement by then besides giving the correct antibiotics for the endocarditis.
