Guest guest
Kristy and others ~~ Did you or anyone else here ever think pre-op " I'll never be satisfied with just that amount? " I'm thinking, here I am at a point where even though I am satisfied, I keep eating until I'm uncomfortable. Pre-op, did you ever wonder if things would change for you? Just a li'l worried, as usual... Robin F

When I get full, I can't take another bite. Pre-op, I could be stuffed full and still keep taking a bite or two or three (eg. Thanksgiving dinner) until I was miserable. Can't do that anymore. If I'm determined to eat more, I have to wait until my stomach empties a little bit before I can take another bite. and I have talked about being able to tell when our pyloric valve must be expelling some of our stomach contents, cuz we can definitely feel when another bite'll fit where it wouldn't a minute earlier. It's hard to explain, but it's true. Guest guest
<< The satiety is another great thing, too. With the VBG I could eat till the pouch gave me physical pain, and I'd still be hungry. There was no satisfaction because the food wasn't reaching my stomach. With this DS, I can eat and the hunger is satisfied fully *during* the time that I'm eating. When I've taken the last bite I need to take, I know it. And I'm totally satisfied for hours. >> Michele, Ok, now I feel a little better. I read Mel's post and got scared. I really hope the DS helps me feel satisfied. That's a big concern for me. Since you've had the VBG too, you know what it's like to struggle with that friggin' surgery. I can eat and eat and never feel satisfied with the VBG. I NEED the DS to help me feel satisfied. I'm not even sure I'm talking about feeling full......because I think I know what that feels like, but that doesn't stop me.....I'm talking about feeling satisfied that I've had enough and can stop without having to eat everything on my plate. To this day I have no idea how much to put on my plate because I can eat it all. Granted, with the VBG it may take me hours but that doesn't stop me from piling it on. In about the first year of having my VBG, my portions were small and I could nibble on little amounts at a time. But something happened as time went on and now I can eat almost like before the VBG. I think that if I didn't have the VBG, I'd easily be up around 600 lbs. by now, so at least it's helped to keep me from gaining quickly, but the fact remains that I am gaining. I sure hope the DS holds out over the long haul. Connie G. in IL VBG in 1997 at 484 lbs., lost down to 363, currently hovering around 410 lbs. I'm in the habit now of giving myself smaller portions. It took some time to get used to it, but it's second nature now. I eat more than my 3- and 5-year old daughters now, but still less than my husband. Last night, I had about 4 oz. of New York steak and 1/2 c. au gratin potatoes for dinner, and I was full and satisfied. I love eating steaks now cuz I get the enjoy the leftovers for lunch the next day. :-) More bang for the buck! And I never bother with store-brand steaks anymore, it's Angus Beef or nothing. This is just what it's like with my VBG! :-( My > pouch fills up, then slowly empties into my stomach, and then I > just continue to eat more. I should probably clarify. Eating another bite for me is simply that -- maybe I'm at the table chatting, having lunch with friends, and I'm filling up. I'll put the fork down, and after a few minutes, I can eat another bite if I want it. This is normal. Just like a normal stomach. But I'm not talking about eating bite after bite after bite on an already painfully full stomach. When I'm full, I'm full, and if I go for that extra bite, it's a limited thing and not a progression to uncontrolled quantities. I know I'm not explaining this well, but I hope it reassures you. So many people have said this, it causes me to wonder if this is one of those elusive causes of obesity that doctors can never quite identify? Trust me Claudine, this all changes after surgery. Guest guest
Until ya'll started talking about feeling satisfied after eating, I'd never really thought about it. But now that I've really paid attention to my stomach, I realize that I never get the feeling of satiety! I could eat until I'm bursting and extremely uncomfortable, but with never feeling satisfied!
