Guest guest
Becky This is great news... it is not easy to eat out.. l know l always have to be sure l do not eat what l want but should.. and sense of humor helps, believe me l know.. Rita Update on Husband I have such good news, I could almost cry! Last night, and I were out shopping and had to eat out. We both like a certain fast food chain's chicken, but have been stearing clear of it. said he didn't think it would be that bad, so I said, " OK, let's eat there, then check your BGs when we get home (about an hour and a half after) and see what happens " . He checked and it was 215. Oops! He was shocked. He's off work on Fridays and called me up at work this morning to tell me that he started reading the first year of T2 diabetes book I bought. Woohoo! He seemed really upbeat about it and was relaying things from the book to me. He told me that he really needs to check his blood more often. What I was so glad to hear him say was that, if he knows how certain foods affect his BGs, he can make an informed choice whether to eat that thing again or not. It's up to him to decide. Hallelujah! He's taking responsibility for his disease! I know that he may get down about having diabetes and heart disease again, but I know that he'll work through it and do the right thing for himself. His ability to look at himself and his willingness to change, when appropriate, are the things l love most about him. Well, next to his humor, that is. Best to all, Becky
Guest guest
That's great news Becky. Now all you have to do is be amazed, surprised, and enlightened when he tells you all about what you already know. Congratulations - you made it this far without needing a therapist or a lawyer. CarolR< LOL! Thanks, Carol. So good, so far! The amazement and surprise are at the ready. Whatever it takes because it's infinitely more important for HIM to learn this than for me to learn it, and it's vitally important for me to learn. I really appreciate the help and support I get here. If it weren't for you folks, I wouldn't be able to help much at all. It sure helps having this list behind me. Guest guest
The only thing I'd add to what Vicki said is to have the salad dressing on the side - or go without. Dressings are often overloaded with carbs and fats. BTW have you checked ou the nutritional information on various food chains? Guest guest
A friend of mine who's a very experienced waiter, says that he notices that when people order dressing 'on the side', they often end up putting more on the salad than the prep people would have if they hadn't asked for 'on the side.' YMMV. Re: Update on Husband The only thing I'd add to what Vicki said is to have the salad dressing on the side - or go without. Dressings are often overloaded with carbs and fats. Guest guest
>BTW have you checked ou the nutritional information on various food chains? Bea< Hi, Bea, Yes, we've checked. The reason we ate what and where we ate was so that could see what it did to his BG level. It was quite the sobering experience for him and he's been testing several times a day, since. Thanks, all. Guest guest
After a person checks their BG's for a while and learn what various foods will do...sometimes it is easier just to leave it alone...or just a small bite and hold it in the mouth a long time and just savor the taste. Just eat slower and less. Eleanor Re: Update on Husband >BTW have you checked ou the nutritional information on various food chains? Bea< Hi, Bea, Yes, we've checked. Guest guest
I always order blue cheese which is the lowest of the dressings.
