Guest guest
Kathleen and everyone I have a confession to make - Hamish still has a bedtime bottle and he's 3 1/2. I feel it definitely has to stop soon but I just don't think he would drink the recommended 1 1/2 pints per day from a cup. He's a little better with a carton and straw. Anyway, after the New Year, I'm going to try, with the addition of lots of dairy for the calcium. The best laid plans, eh? Oh, we visit the dentist regularly - so far no problems. He does eat, however, but I do remember days when he was younger he would hardly take a thing except his bottle, so I don't think you're necessarily spoiling Abby. Have you tried offering Abby things like Quavers or other 'melt in the mouth' type crisps? - not very healthy I know but it might tempt her. Hamish likes his sweeties too but, again, when he was younger he seemed to like more savoury foods. Smooth peanut butter sandwiches was another thing he ate though he won't touch them now! Sorry if you've tried all these but sometimes we can get stuck in a rut. Are you in the UK, by the way? Right now Hamish is eating well and gaining weight - two weeks ago I was tearing my hair out. Things change. Good luck. Barbara.
Guest guest
Barbara, I give Abby Kix and Cherrios and animal crackers and usually she'll have a few. She used to eat peanut butter on bread or with bananas but no more. She'll always eat sweets like pumpkin pie or ice cream but I don't want to give her too much sugar. I don't feel so bad now that I now a lot of you still give your kids a bottle! I just wish she'd try new things too! We had pizza with friends the other day and their kids were just diving into the pizza and they're only 1 month and 5 months older than Abby. I was a little jealous. Glad to know, too, that everyone else goes in waves with this eating/gaining weight thing. I'm just on a down wave right now and I'm sure she'll pick up. Oh, I'm in California. Her friends also talk A LOT more. We're anyone's kids late in talking? We're having a speech eval in Jan. She doesn't say any words yet-just babbling. I know its all tied into her gross motor delay but I hope the ST can help me communicate with her and perhaps help with getting her to try more solids. Stacie, No, you didn't scare me. I'm happy to hear different stories just to get an idea of the pig picture-what I may or may not be looking at. I'm keeping it all in perspective but also trying to cover all bases. I don't want anything with her to be overlooked. Knowledge is power, right? We'll have to get some pics of the kids together in Jan. I can post them too if you wouldn't mind.
