Sorry I didn't answer this. It got lost in my mailbox. I can't find

anything yet, but I am still looking. I DID find this that came from the

package insert:

VIOXX®(rofecoxib tablets and oral suspension)

9183800

OVERDOSAGE

No overdoses of VIOXX were reported during clinical trials. Administration

of single doses of VIOXX 1000 mg to 6 healthy volunteers and multiple doses

of 250 mg/day for 14 days to 75 healthy volunteers did not result in serious

toxicity.

In the event of overdose, it is reasonable to employ the usual supportive

measures, e.g., remove unabsorbed material from the gastrointestinal tract,

employ clinical monitoring, and institute supportive therapy, if required.

Rofecoxib is not removed by hemodialysis; it is not known whether rofecoxib

is removed by peritoneal dialysis.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION

VIOXX is administered orally. The lowest dose of VIOXX should be sought for

each patient. Osteoarthritis

The recommended starting dose of VIOXX is 12.5 mg once daily. Some patients

may receive additional benefit by increasing the dose to 25 mg once daily.

The maximum recommended daily dose is 25 mg.

Management of Acute Pain and Treatment of Primary Dysmenorrhea

The recommended initial dose of VIOXX is 50 mg once daily. Subsequent doses

should be 50 mg once daily as needed. Use of VIOXX for more than 5 days in

management of pain has not been studied (see CLINICAL STUDIES, Analgesia,

including dysmenorrhea).

VIOXX tablets may be taken with or without food.

Oral Suspension

VIOXX Oral Suspension 12.5 mg/5 mL or 25 mg/5 mL may be substituted for

VIOXX Tablets 12.5 or 25 mg, respectively, in any of the above indications.

Shake before using.

I sent in several articles, and the dosage say that 50mg is the normal

prescribing strength for pain. I was surprised that many articles say that

there are no studies on side effects for anyone taking vioxx longer than 5

days. If this is prescribed for long term pain, I am surprised that it got

FDA approval without testing longer than 5 days.

All of the sites say to make sure you get regular blood tests to check for

liver enzymes.

I know what you mean about getting off the prednisone. Its so easy to increase

and impossible

to decrease. Sounds like a fun trip to burg and what a great place for

archeology

digs. I lived very close to town, what a place!! I hope your blood

pressure comes down

soon. Take care of yourself!!

What are they planning to give you for an anti-inflammatory? Pain raises

Blood Pressure too - why must you go a whole week without medication? That

just doesn't seem right. Can't you call your doctor and tell him? You could

do some real damage to your joints without an anti-inflammatory. Be very

careful this week if you cannot get in to see your doctor before next week.

Not to scare you, but joints can be destroyed overnight. RA is relentless

at times.

Good for you with the cane! They really do help take some pressure off the

other joints.

Take care, .

......how much prednisone do you take. That was the only drug that

worked

for Esther when she was a child......however, the prednisone made her blood

pressure high. She has been off it for years (since age 13) and her blood

pressure is

actually on the low side now. Just a thought.........could be the

prednisone that

may be making yours so high.

About how long have you had blood pressure problems? Sorry if I forgot! You

were on an ACE-inhibitor before Vioxx was added, right? How long have you

been on prednisone?

Check out this link from the FDA which mentions that care must be taken if

using Vioxx with an ACE-inhibitor and that one of the known side effects of

Vioxx use is high blood pressure:

I am glad they got to the bottom of this!! Great news about your BP. Are

they giving you anything in it's place or do you have to wait until your

system is more stable?

I've read about that study. It sounds like it will be very similar to

Enbrel.

Your family doctor has rights to be annoyed that your rheumy made such

a mistake with both the Lotensin and the Vioxx. For your rhuemy to not

understand why you're not responding makes me wonder what school he

went to!!! There are many of us that do not respond, I being one of them.

The NSAIDS may reduce my inflammation and the pain meds may take

some of the pain away, but the disease is still chewing up my joints. It

is also still spreading, very slowly, but still on the move even with

Enbrel.

Sed rates are as fickle as the weather. From one month to another, mine

has

changed from the 40's to the 100's. I can't correlate anything being the

cause

of the rise or fall. I absolutely disagree with your doctor that the sed

rate doesn't

indicate pain. Inflammation causes pain and the sed rate measures

inflammation

so how can he make such a statement? What does anyone else here think of

that

statement?

Just because your sed rate is not high, it doesn't mean you aren't in pain.

It just

means that your inflammation is not alarmingly high. RA damages the joints

and erodes the lining of the joints leaving bone on bone. THAT HURTS!!!!

I am so glad your BP is down and you can now enjoy the pool! There's no

better way to keep those joints moving!

Hello all, a few weeks ago I asked you all about Vioxx. I have now been

taking it only 3 weeks and so much of the inflammation is GONE and

therefore my pain level in hip and back is greatly decreased. I am

taking 25 mg once a day.I can now get back into my stretching routine.

This is interesting too: my burning feet pain I have had my whole life

seems to be gone! I just noticed that last night - was amazed. Seems

like a good side benefit. I have had no side effects or adverse/ill

effects from Vioxx. Matter of fact over the holidays went to several

parties, stood up, chatted, felt very happy feeling no pain. Just wanted

to share that with you. And thank you to all Vioxx users who shared your

experience with me before I started it.
