Amazingly dumb lab-obsessed docs.

If your situation was mine, I would definitely increase on my own.

You are on SO little that your hypo has returned with a vengeance.

Most folks here don't begin to find an optimal dose of Armour until

they are on 2 grains and HIGHER. Before the ridiculous TSH labs came

out in 1975, folks were dosed by symptoms NOT labs. And their

standard Armour dose was 3 grains and higher.

If I had to do all over again, I would get my own Armour along with

whatever a doc has prescribed for me. I would dose myself, starting

at one grain and raising 1/2 grain every few weeks, until I found a

dose that REALLY seemed to be working (i.e. eliminated all

symptoms). THEN, I would make an appointment with what appeared to

be a great ARMOUR doc, and explain that I am on such and such amount

of Armour, doing well, and would love to see him/her be my new doc

(which means start with me right where I am on my Armour--LOL).

I am hoping that my doctor will increase my dosage before my bloodwork comes

back also. I think I can go from 1/2 grain in the morning and 1/2 grain in the

afternoon, to 1 grain in the morning, and I think I could go for either 1 grain

in the afternoon, or 1/2 grain at noon, and another 1/2 grain later in the

afternoon. I'm anxious to see what happens!

how much to increase?

I have worked my way up to a whole grain (whoopee!) over the past

month. I have felt good maybe 3 days of it. Felt like I needed to

increase last week, Dr. wanted to wait until blood test results are

in. Results were not complete yet, acupuncturist says my T4 is

low,T3 is not in yet, and TSH is 1.2 (it was 1.6 to start with).

She said to increase by 1/4 grain, because I have so many overt

symptoms of hypo.

I feel like they have been extremely conservative with my dosing, to

my detriment(lots of even worse fatigue days than before

treatment). What would be the harm in increasing by 30mgs instead,

dosing in the afternoon?

1/4 grain approximately every 3-6 wks, depending on how YOU feel, not how

someone else feels with THEIR increases. I've had to go really slow, but others

have gone very fast with good results. It is so individual.

> Why isn't the Free T3 in? These should both come back at the same

time! Could it be that the Free T3 was not really done?

I think it was because my regular doctor was not in and the

acupuncturist was looking at the results and didn't want to share

them with me. I made sure when I had the blood drawn that they

checked the right hormones, and I asked for ferretin, adrenal and

thyroid antibodies. I see my regular doctor on Monday, am going to

try to get the blood test results myself before then.

I increased yesterday adding 30mg in the afternoon since I usually

have an afternoon drop in energy. After all the supportive

postings, I think I am going to increase on my own, there is a

possibility my doctor will say that is fine. I don't see the point

in wasting any more of my life waiting for test results when I can

prety well read my own body and know that I need to increase before

I get to the point that I lose a lot of days to unnecessary fatigue.
