Sheri,

Could you explain what you mean about applying for Medigap programs and

being turned down by Blue Cross and Blue Shield's HMO program? I am

about to leave private insurance and move to Medicare (will have been on

disability two years this April) and was planning to pick up a Medigap

plan. What exactly was the problem you encountered in doing this

yourself? best, Beth

Hi - I'm also thinking of going on Medicare - they have already sent me a

card!! In Calif there are only two medigap policies available, the cheapest

is through Blue Cross and is $270./month!! Considerably more expensive for

those of us under 65 as they know we are disabled and expensive!! If you do

the HMO option, medigap is around $70/month. I presently pay $140/month

with a rather high deductible so don't know if Medicare is worth it!

I'm also new to the list and really appreciate the Cheney 02 and Dr. See

articles. I came in through the back door with a cellular respiratory

defect (muscle bx showed defects in complexes I,II-III of the respiratory

chain in the electron transport chain) and eventually from too much

oxidative stress ( I was heavy into biking!!) my immune system went awry

and I started having problems with infections and longer and longer

recovery times until 1 and 1/2 years ago I had a yellow fever vaccination

(was planning a trip to Peru!!) did a weekend ride in the mountains, and

basically , haven't seen the light of day since!! Recently started

ganciclovir (am pos for stealth virus), immunopro, take tons of coQ10, and

other vits - and occ gamma glob. Anyway, plan to shortly get an order for

02 and try that rebreather mask (my blood is alkalotic!) - my very first

symptoms 10 to 15 years ago happened after donating a unit of blood - I

suddenly had to go home with this (now familiar!) total wipeout exhaustion.

After that, occasionally, on rides, someone would have to come back for me

in a car as I would just collapse - no power bars, bananas, goo,

gatorade, etc would work - but, being in super denial and in love with my

bike and the endorphins I kept pushing ( a bit like an alcoholic and

blackouts! ) until there was nothing left to push!! I was convinced a year

or so ago I had mycoplasma but Blood was neg at Nicholson's Lab but in the

meantine had been on erythromicin for a month and it really helped for

awhile. In fact any antibiotic or antiviral seems to help for awhile.

Things that do not work::airplanes, alcohol, exercise, nitrous oxide (in

dental offices - the last time I had it I called up the hygenist and

practically accused her of putting poison in the gas!! - nitrous oxide is a

known problem for the mitochondrial myopathy folks) Anyway, you can

understand why I'm excited about the 02 stuff. Deb

Deb I am also a bike --lover & still hope to get back on it one day. Yes get on

Medicare, you can keep it if you go make to work and it seem sure that a drug

benefit will be added, if you get into

an HMO type plan make sure there are CFS friendly docs in that HMO.

Deb,

I so appreciate your info here. I called the guy back who told me I

probably wouldn't qualify for the " I " program (with pharmacy coverage)

but he'd have his agent look into it. (After I read your post). I am so

worn out with this insurance battle now after fighting three grievances

with HMO's, that all the help I can get is wonderful. I thank you for

this. I just called Blue Cross who said again I couldn't get medigap.

Yes, more problems about being under 65.

But I've learned that many in social security and medicare don't know

what they're talking about, so to make the process even longer, I always

have to verify the " facts " I get by talking to more than one person. I

travel between departments in the SS and Medicare system because the

front-line phone answering people just aren't experts and don't always

take time to send you to the right department. Whew.

What insurance coverage do you have now and is it permanent if you want

it to be? I'd be agreeing with you about Medicare being worth it if you

have access to CFS Conscious doctors, prescription and testing coverage

that is pretty broad. We get some weird tests that just aren't covered.

The information that Al gave someone about getting financial breaks

through drug companies is a very hot tip for me. I feel like I have so

far to go before I finally get the right insurance set up here in

California. As soon as I feel familiar with how to call these companies

and their names, etc. guess I'll start that long process because it does

sound like a really outstanding option. If it's needs based, I may be in

trouble because I'm far from rich but not poverty level with my

husband's income--self employed and without insurance himself because we

can't afford it.

As for Cheney, some of his direct patients are having a conversation

online right now. We had a huge amount of info come through which Carol

Sieverling in our group generously taped and transcribed for us with

Cheney's permission. You can find tons of info in our archives, but I

don't know the digest numbers. Also good sites for Cheney's articles,

which if you don't get from others, I'll try to find again.

What stealth virus have you positive for? Are you taking the Ganciclovir

IV? How do you feel? Have you been tested for mycoplasmas and other

antibiotic receptive infections?

I had some immunizations that really crashed me and started new

symptoms, too.

As for the giving of blood--with low blood volume, which you probably

had already, that could be very hard on your illness.

Welcome! Sheri

Hi, all. It's not Sunday, but to those of you who pray, please pray

for me as I go in to have my knee replacement surgery tomorrow

morning. I'll be off the forum from tomorrow for about 10 days, but

I'll be thinking about you. These are days of high anxiety, as you

might imagine.

>>

I wish you would get this before you go in. I'm thinking of you with a

prayer. Think of me too. I have to have this done this month. My broken leg

hasn't healed and the break is so close to the knee they have to do both. My

knee is shot. I have also been strength and conditioning building at physical

therapy. It is kind of weird to be trying to walk on a broken leg but I'm

just along for the ride. I'll do about anything to get out of the wheelchair

and back to the land of cars and stores etc.

Good luck!!!

Donna,

Thank you so much for the information that you gave me. I am so thankful

for this list. When I'm totally overwhelmed, all I have to do is ask and

it's right there. What a blessing!

Josiah is 9 years old. I don't know if he's " high " functioning or not.

When he was evaluated he was determined to be mild to severe. I know he

could do so much more. There is so much life in him.

I'll see what I can find out and do for him. I never even thought of

contacting the Autism group here.

Thanks again, Donna.

For those of you who readily dismissed the Suzanne Somers diet, it is based on

Dr. Schwarzbein's work.

Hi All.... this is from Pearland, Texas. It's been ages since I " ve

been on, and I wish everyone many blessings! My sister-in-law is getting her

degree in Special Ed. (My brother's an Aspie, so his their son). She has

emailed me asking if I have come across any bad Autism websites that promote

incorrect information ...has anyone run across anything anywhere that might be

of help to her? My son is Autistic and non-verbal, so I know of tons of

sites...but thankfully no crummy ones! Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks all!

Friday:

I see how concerned you are, try not to be too upset. I was an ER nurse for 13 years and have been a rehab nurse for the last 13 years. The naltrexone 25 mg won't hurt him, he may be nauseous if he is taking narcotics. The lower dose at night may not cause nausea at all. He probably should wait until tomorrow night when his stomach has settled to take the lower dose. If he is older, he should start on maybe 1.5 mg for a few days and work up with the dosage. Naltrexone when given for other reasons is typically given in 50 mg doses so this man did not receive a harmful dosage of the medication.

thankyou Vicki (like talking to myself - Vicki is my other name, lol)

I am ringing them tomorrow as its abit late now to call. I will find

out medication. I was going to also warn them about alcohol and

codiene? is that all i have to say or is there more i should say>?

I've already told my father to tell him to take 4.5 from now on (and

i was going to warn about stiffness ad spasms and if on baclofen or

any injectable CRABs too) except copaxone, any more advise?

I appreciate professional view from a nurse especially - as we say

here " NURSES - CANT LIVE WITHOUT EM " (its a bumper bar sticker on

cars, lol)

I'm not the best one to ask, but I am pretty sure kidney beans are a

no-no. Black beans may be okay...it seems like I have seen black

(turtle?) beans for sale for sprouting. And, I can tell you from

experience that adzuki beans are 100% okay to sprout. Garbanzo beans

are great when sprouted, as are several varieties of peas (just not

black-eyed peas, from what I have heard). Lentils are wonderful...

Hope this helps, a little, at least until somebody more knowledgeable

decides to respond. :-)

Not to dispute what you are saying, but on occasion some tomatoes I have

purchased from the supermarket have had seeds inside that have begun to

sprout... I didn't think anything about it really, and ate the tomato

(including seeds), and I'm still alive to talk about it. But, I'm sure

they should not intentionally be sprouted and eaten; they wouldn't taste

good anyway.

Interestingly, these are part of the nightshade family. Perhaps the

others in the family are also poisonous. Diane
