Guest guest
Jodee, I don't see an hemoglobin A1C among the tests you're taking to determine your diabetes diagnosis. This should definitely be done. Even though you say three months ago you didn't have diabetes, if diabetes is even suspected this should be done. It gives an all over average of your BGs for the last three months and (in my lab, at least) anything over 6 is considered diabetic. My diagnosis also came three months after a normal UA - I was in a medicine study for Fosamax and was having urine and blood tested every three months at that time. At the beginning of that period my urine had no ketones. Three months later on the next urinalysis it did, and I had an A1C test and it was 10 - definitely diabetic. And this occurred in a three-month period. So if your doctor hasn't ordered an A1C test, you should ask for it. I guess if you're familiar with foods that cause BGs to rise you know that not just sugar and sweet foods but grains and root veggies will do the same Good luck and keep us posted. The chem 14 is used to diagnose diabetes among other things.
