Guest guest
I just wanted to let you know that I just got out of the hospital .again.last night. CHF again. I didn't think I could make it those 50 miles to the hospital where my Cardiologist is. I even called my Pastor and left a message on his answering machine reminding him about my funeral arrangements. Well, that really turned out to be useless since I apparently made it through the crisis. It was a very close call though and my doctor told me to NEVER wait that long to get to the ER! Well, all's well that ends well. I am very weak and feel terrible but at least I'm alive. ) They did absolutely nothing to help me with my BG's except occasionally they would give me 3 units of insulin only when my BG was over 183. The food was basically geared for people with high cholesterol and the things they had available on the diabetic diet were totally off the wall. I had my own insulin and glucometer with me but they gave me strict orders that my heart had priority. I even had to go through that horrible stress test but I refused to go through the chemical one and demanded the treadmill. I managed to stay " upright " for 4 minutes and they usually require 12 minutes. I was totally shocked when my doctor came in last night and said I " passed the test " and could go home. I think my children have reached the point where they think " oh, it's just Mother in a panic over her heart again " . The only one who seems to " get it " is , the one who emailed you a year ago when I had to have surgery on my neck. I'm very tired so I'm getting off of here and head back to my recliner to rest. Love to all, Tootie " When I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope that I would not have a single bit of talent left, and could say, 'I used everything you gave me.' Guest guest
You poor dear -- Hospitals are not the place for diabetics are they? My endo is 2 hrs away from me in heavy traffic and the cardiologist is in his office. The ambulance service won't take you there without clearance locally but I have told our local doctor whom I used for quite a long time (until I became diabetic) that if I have a real emergency, I want to be stabilized and then sent to my endo (whom I consider my family doctor) so I can be assured my diabetes situation will be addressed properly. He said that will be no problem. He is getting so close to retirement age that I do wonder what will happen down the line. I'm so glad that you made it thru this crisis --- get some rest and return to us asap. Kay
Guest guest
Tootie, I'm saddened to hear about your CHF getting you in trouble again. But I just have this feeling that it's too soon for you to die, you have too many people to help for God to take you away just yet. But your post reinforced an idea I've been having, that I should put together a list of some diabetic-friendly meals and snacks for my friends to bring me if I'm every hospitalized for more than a day. I've seen some of the high-carb, over-processed meals served in our local hospital, and I sincerely doubt ANYBODY would improve their health eating them!
