Yesterday morning when I went to test, I tried 3 times on my arm and twice on my

finger before I was able to get any blood. Am I drying up. <bg>

Seriously, it did take 5 tries. I kept wondering if the lancet was a trifle

short and not going deep enough.

Are you getting enough fluids? That always happens to me

when I don't get enough water.

What was the BG level when you eventually extracted that drop of blood?

The reason I ask is that when I have trouble my BG is higher than usual and

the blood is more viscous.

Indeed if I have trouble it is usually the calloused area of my right index

finger and thumb - so I just go over to the little finger to test.

My reading of the literature leads me to conclude that over time many of us

exhibit early symptoms of peripheral artery disease. Specifically,

inflamation and narrowing of blood vessels, and thickening of the blood due

to platelet aggregation. To some extent these changes - at least in the

early stages are moderated by exercise and glycemic control.

A medical conference discussed many issues in 2003 and produced a consensus

statement. It's faily technical but I found it interesting and also a great

reminder to keep an eye on the full range of possible complications - and do

what it takes to stave off their effects.
