Guest guest
Hi all, Just thought I'd put my 2 cents in.I know of a few other sites in NJ that had toxic chemical plants that are now " cleaned up " and the towns want to build schools,or housing on the leveled lots. My question is even though the EPA says they are clean, how do we all know what happened 50 years ago in the soil and how it would affect our children and other generations? In the town (southern bergen county NJ) where I grew up there was a plant that made soap and other things across the tracks in the next town over. Untill 10 years ago the EPA so called cleaned it up and built condo's on it. Many towns were made up of industries that were chemical, and either dumped pollutins in the river or burned them from a smoke stack, or dumped them. My sister when she was alot younger used to go over to the creek on the other side of the road from my house to look for toads and tad poles, and small fish. She loved animals. She later told me that she saw 3 legged frogs and mis shapened fish in that pond. Anyway to make a long story short, I found out recently that a preschool in my town had a cancer cluster many years ago, my dad was on the parent board. Many parents called in the EPA and they did a search but didn't find anything in the air or soil. Many of the children went onto the high school. I talked to my girlfriend who I went to high school with, and found out that many of my classmates had died of leukemia or brain tumers. How sad. I had seen some of them on the 10 year reunion, but missed out on the 15 yr one.
