Hi everyone,

I just wanted to say that when I was a child , I was considered to have a

hearing impairment , I had a hearing aid in my left ear and I had trouble

with my speech as well, I couldnt say words that had the letters TH in

them. I was born premature weighing 1 lb 14 oz at birth I was born at

6 month gestation I was considered to be Visually impaired as well.

Today as an Adult I still have some vision problems and but i dont have a

speech or hearing problem! My son Zachary Born June 13,2001 Has been

receiving Speech and Language services since he was 20 mos old, he

is now 30 mos old he was in O.T. for Sensory Ingretion isssues, but

since we are on Medicaid he was only able to have 9 visits with the

O.T. zachary is currently in P.T. for balance issues and for Moderate

Hypotonia ( Low muscle tone) we are meeting with his pediatrian for a

consult to see if he should be seen by a pedi Neurologist ( his P.T.

has suggested that Zachary see a Pedi Neurologist) to see if we can

get a diagnosis so he can get more P.T and some more O.T.

Talk to you all later, and Zachary in kalamazoo Michigan

In FL we have the birth to three program called Early Intervention that

allows the young children to have all the therapy that is needed until age

3. Is your child in any program like this? They would bill our insurance

first & when that was maxed out they would take over. The only problem with

this is that they would max out the insurance so that when your child came

off you might not have any coverage left after they were 3. But for us it

was go for what we could get, bad thing was I didn't find out about EI until

was nearly 3.

You are lucky that your hearing loss improved. It probably was

caused by excessive water in the ear or too many ear infections. My

son has a permanent hearing loss (cochlear) and was probably born

with that. No one is sure if that is causing his speech delay or

not,it is only mild to moderate.
