Guest guest
Yay !! Jennie maybe you can (again) update her talking page and include one of her cheers?! http://www.debtsmart.com/talk/lindsey.html This is wonderful news and I too am so happy you let her keep going long enough so that she had time to succeed. Did you ever purchase the cheerleading tapes? You can also look into drill teams -I was on a state champ team in high school and it's more dance steps and less of the gymnastics. In schools they typically use pom poms. I think it's easier than cheerleading or twirling batons even though they all can be fun. Also drill teams don't usually cheer -the dance is the cheer. Here is a place I found to purchase videos of this type of choreographed " drill " cheerleading type dance http://www.danceadts.com/videos/video_beg.htm Here are pictures of a drill team camp -this may be something to look for in your area? http://www.lionettes.com/Events/2002UDACamp/ =====
Guest guest
No, I did not get any tapes. I really didn't see the point. She could not imitate the simplest movement! She knows what she's suppose to do,but her body will not do it. These are pretty simple cheers.I think they will use pom poms during the real games. There were 3 jamborees, but this the only one Lindsey went too.The real games start Sept 6th,I think. We travel around, today was Plam Bay. Hey were going to Disney tomorrow. We're going to MGM first, right when it opens and then animal kingdom. Jennie
Guest guest
Hey Jennie! It sounds like really enjoys cheering -who cares if she can't keep up with the videos, who would know? With the tapes she can take as long as she wants to know each step in private -you can even put the tape on slow motion (and you can do the videos with her at home -when done on regular speed for you it will be like a workout tape!) After awhile with practice/practice/practice she will be able to keep up with the videos -and she will more easily pick up the routines from cheerleading or pom pom squad with confidence. Again however you may want to explore drill team/pom pom squad vs. cheerleading -there is a difference and pom poms are not the reason. With drill team since the cheer is the dance - won't have to speak at all. I'm saying this speaking from experience, even children without apraxia need to practice all the time to remember and keep up with the routines/squad -and the videos they have now will give her a head start to get to know the basic steps. You'll find that each routine contains pretty much variations of the same movements/steps. Maybe we'll meet you tomorrow at MGM or Animal Kingdom -I'll call you! =====
Guest guest
I have to say, I missed the original post to this but as I was reading this *second* post, I was envisioning a 12 year old cheerleader. Then at the bottom of the message it was indicated that Lindsey was 7!!! That is such an accomplishment for 7 year old, typically developing or not! Way to go Lindsey and her supporters (parents, coaches, etc)!! Tricia Morin North Carolina << Yesterday during pracitice she named the cheer. They take turns naming the cheers before they do it. Lindsey loudly(for her) said Squad set...she named the cheer then hit it! It is slow and you could see her stuggle, mainly with " hit it " This is hard for her.but she did it. She named a cheer during the game today also.but it was quiet shy one lol! Thanks for all who encouraged us with this,I am so glad I did not pull her out. Guest guest
Cheerleading starts at age 3 here! It just amazes me at every practice to see these tiny little children cheering, and shocks me at the same time that it is so easy for them. These are very simple cheers, and the other children pick them up very fast. Here's an example. Here's one that Lindsey likes. Lemon lime, tuty fruity, come on panthers kick some booty! this is one of the harder ones! another Time out ..shout it out.. shake it up and work it out., thats it. Very easy for a typical 7 year old. Lindsey's motor panning is MUCH different then the other children,so I am so proud of her! Thanks! Jennie
