Hi In place i had the white fillings, i think its ceramic, anyway the dentist assured me they are as strong as the amalgam ones, and infinitely safer !!! Guest guest Posted June 23, 2004 Report Share Posted June 23, 2004 ceramic fillings are called on-lays. The composite material is a glass and plastic resin cured with a light to harden. Composite material is less expensive, less than 100 per tooth while onlays are much more expensive and are sent out to make. My onlay on one tooth is 750. The 4 composites were 55 each.
