Guest guest
Hi Believe it or not I did get some POSITIVE personal e-mails as a result of my post. But, now I feel I have to explain myself. I fully understand that I had brain surgery 3 weeks ago, and I fully understand my body's limitations. I just thought that some people post-op out there had to do something besides sit around for 3 months. Dr. B said to " go live your life " I asked about swimming, skiing, having another baby, etc... and that was his answer. Of course I will listen to my head, I do not want to jeopardize another surgery. I put in an e-mail to him on the running, so I won't do anything till I hear back from him. adding fuel to the fire... I got more than a few little snide comments that I must not have been so bad before surgery. How tacky....(misery breeds company, but I will not apologize that I am doing well and had A POSITIVE, SUCCESSFUL surgery) I think that it is good for some who are scared or contemplating surgery to know that others have great experiences and feel like getting back to life 3 weeks after. When I joined this list the day I was diagnosed the first post I read were about another member trying to committ suicide and all the " final exit " " final post " debate. Wow! what an introduction to chiari! (I am very sorry for this member's experiences, but this scared the heck out of me!) I made myself continue to exercise as it made me feel better. I would have the most incredible headache, but I did not wallow in it, i didn't have a choice...cardio got my blood flowing and I always felt better. IN FACT I went to a headache pain management clinic and the neuro made her patients exercise at least 30 min daily and COMMITT TO THIS as IT RAISES SERTONIN levels. If you did not follow the plan in it's entirety..exercise, meds, relaxation, DIET...THEN SHE WOULD NOT TREAT YOU, SHE BELIEVED IN IT THAT MUCH and so did I. I think that since we all have such a life long illness to deal with that DIET, EXERCISING, HEALTHY CHOICES should be pushed. I know it has made all the difference in my recovery and dealing with chiari. FOr example, It blows my mind how someone complaining about daily headaches and the usual trials of chiari...could then turn around and smoke a pack. and then continue the complaining about their body's limitations. We should be doing everything positive for our bodies so that they can function to the best of whats possible for each of us. I love the symptom alleviation list! There are plenty of healthy things and choices we can do to help our bodies. I will let you all know what my doc says when I get an answer.
