Hi Shellon,

Welcome to the Cherab group list! Compiled below, are

resources that hopefully will help with your search for

appropriate services for you daughter. The early stages of

frequent intensive treatments are most essential for a

child with Apraxia. Cherab and Speechville provide an

informative review of Apraxia Remediation. I posted this

info and listed Georgia Speech Therapists, who specialize

in Apraxia. I believe these therapist are located in your

vicinity or nearby. Hope these resources can help.

Best Wishes,

How to Find a Speech Language Pathologist (Speech

Therapists are also known as SLPs)

http://www.speechville.com/speech-therapy/finding-speech-therapists.html

To find speech-language pathologists:

" In your research for a speech-language pathologist, aim to

find someone in expertise in the area in which your child

is having difficulty. First seek someone with experience

with children. Next seek someone with experience with

children that are similar in age to yours. Working with

toddlers is different from working with teens. If you

already have a diagnosis or have a feeling about what the

diagnosis will be, look for someone with experience in that

particular disorder. When you hear the same name several

times from different sources, you're on the right track!

> Hello,

> My 3 year old daughter was diagnosed with apraxia by her

developmental ped. along with other developmental problems

(Ringg 22, DSI, hypotonia, etc) . She has been getting

speech therapy since she is 2 years old and my question is

how do you know what things to look for in an SLP qualified

to treat apraxia? My daughter's school SLP and private SLP

both say that she is not ready for therapy geared to treat

apraxia because my daughter still mouths most all objects,

has low attention span, and does not imitate or play

turn-taking games. They say that they have to work on

developing these " pre-linguistic skills " to develop her

expressive/receptive language skills which are severely

delayed before they can focus on treating the apraxia. My

daughter is completly non-verbal and has a limited

consonant-vowel repertoire. Are there any parents out

there who have ever been told this? I don't know how to

select an SLP who knows how to treat apraxia because I

don't know what to look for. Are there any SLPs out there

who specialize in treating apraxia that agree with what I

have been told by my daughter's SLPs? Please help. I've

read about other parents saying that they lost precious

time with SLPs who didn't know how to treat apraxia and I

don't want that to happen to my daughter.
