Guest guest
I just asked the OT about the whole water thing and their theory is that it offers all over body pressure (being under water). Imagine the most COMPLETE bear hug... I also think it's good for them to have the resistance against movement - exercises the muscles more - like wearing a weighted vest?? Guest guest
Hey Marina! That may be one aspect for water -but the original thought was that the children were more alert and doing better with showers (vs. baths) , or going under the hose -so I and then Kathy threw in about splashing/jumping in the pool) So the question was on splashing water (one of the principal theories behind negative ions) vs. being emerged in water (one of the principal theories behind water therapy) Water is a complicated thing -it's good and essential for us, much of our bodies are comprised of it -it's obviously useful in many ways even including therapy -but as one of my old chemistry teacher's used to say - " too much water... you drown " (I love that!) ) Until we understand everything about water and life -don't expect to understand why showers and splashing water may have positive effects on us. May be the negative ions as I posted about -perhaps something else. But in this case I don't believe it's the wearing a weighted vest theory -unless of course drops of water feel like a weighted vest to the child -but that is a sensory integration thing - another thing for an OT to help with! =====
