Guest guest
Warning you may not Like what I have to sayThere are people who overcome the barriers set in their lives. Every genetic difference, disease, and injury has people who overcome the limitations that barrier puts on their lives. First person that comes to mind is the blind man who climbs mountains. He has attained goals that most people who are not blind will never reach. Does that mean that research into the cause of blindness should end. Does that mean parents should not try to find a way to disable the blindness that is a barrier in their child's life? Should people with Diabetes stop taking insulin? Should diabetics not use the new pumps that make the insulin delivery smoother so the neurological effects of the massive swings of insulin do not happen because well those swings are part of diabetes? Should the researchers who study the neurological disease that disabled Hawkins go play golf because Hawkins has found a way around the barriers of his disease? I understand that there are many who have overcome the barriers autism has put in their lives does that mean the parents of kids with autism should stop working so hard and just hope their kid is the 1 in 1000 who over comes the limitations of autism. Should Temple Gardner's mom just have left Temple to her Autistic world? Who really needs more humane ways to slaughter animals we should all just become vegetarians. Don't think Temple got to where she is because her parents didn't fight Autism. My son will have a life and he will reach the simple goals of a job and social life because I fought AUTISM AND WHAT CAUSED IT. AUTISM IS MY NEMESIS. I will never stop fighting it because for every person who overcomes the barriers a condition has put on their lives there are thousands who do not overcome them. Did you know that blind people have a 70% unemployment. Many with skills and college degrees but no job. I want my son to love who he is but I never want him to just accept his limitations. As far as the " Voice of Autism " here is my response to those who have problem with it. Whhatch this boy and tell me that he is not in pain that his life is fine. He needs us and there is nothing wrong with trying to help him. I think the bashing Autism Speak gets is because of the inhuman bulling Autistics go through. I think there anger should be focused on the people who call others Freaks and Moron's not at those trying to find an answer to a diease and to distroy those barriers the diease puts in someone's life As far as the $600,000 I know what that is about. To get money from those in the 1% the best way is to hire those who move in those circles. Even though most of those people have trust funds they demand a high salary. The Cancer research people have to pay their board members $1 mil a year. It sucks but with out acces to the people with money you spend you days groveling for a donation that barley covers the office expenses. My husband has run 2 non profits making no money but never really getting access to certain people. When he hired one Development person who was a trust fund baby and who demanded a high pay day it was worth it because that person brought in in just to events 100 times more then their salary. It sucks but that is how the game is played and Autism Speaks is doing what it needs to to raise the big bucks.

Guest guest
I get what your saying. I personally don't have a problem with Autism Speaks. We certainly need to research autism in the hopes that one day we could have answers as to what really causes this and how it could be prevented. However, my problem is the 'barriers' that you mention. I too hope that my daughter will overcome her disability but without the right funding that will not happen regardless of her hard work. Where are the resources for adults with autism? Where can they live and work sucessfully once we the parents are gone from this earth? We need funding for this!I don't care if my daughter climbs a mountain or plays golf. I want her to be a productive adult and sadly I don't see any true organizations (non profit or government based) that truly focuses on helping adults with autism. I guess this why I don't particpate nor contribute to the Autism Speaks walks..... Guest guest
, You are right about the walks. they do make a difference, on many levels. In general, I think there's been enough bashing of Autism Speaks, there will be no more posts of this nature distributed. Subject: Re: Re: Autism Speaks Crosses the Line /Warning you may not Like what I have to sayTo: sList Date: Thursday, September 24, 2009, 12:51 PM The Autism Speaks walk was started by NAAR, remember the slogan, walk far for NAAR? I personally know the people who started this organization, one of the very first, in providing fundraising for studies in autism. They began this out of their basement, and worked endlessly for funds for research. Their motivation was their son, who they recognized would have needs for assistance for the rest of his life. It is a shame that since the organizations merged, so not to be competing for funding, but rather unifying the autism community, that people are not supporting this walk, their idea for helping all children with autism. There will always be levels of disagreeance, but I urge you to please support the walks. They make a difference, and God knows we can use every bit of difference for our children! Guest guest
One more humble opinion on the video that Autism Speaks produced. I watched it...and cried. I can't remember when I've seen a more powerful piece of informative video. Yes, the voice of autism is sinister...that's because autism is. However, the voices of the parents spoke louder and more sinister..in a good way. It was raw, real and to the point. Remember, it takes money to make money, and if this piece smacks a wealthy person in the face, so that he listens and donates...then Autism Speaks is doing their job. Let them do it. Did you know that blind people have a 70% unemployment. Many with skills and college degrees but no job. I want my son to love who he > is but I never want him to just accept his limitations. > > As far as the " Voice of Autism " here is my response to those who have problem with it. Whhatch this boy and tell me that he is not in pain that his life is fine. > http://www.youtube. com/watch? v=cWHZ9NvmTRE > > He needs us and there is nothing wrong with trying to help him. I think the bashing Autism Speak gets is because of the inhuman bulling Autistics go through. I think there anger should be focused on the people who call others Freaks and Moron's not at those trying to find an answer to a diease and to distroy those barriers the diease puts in someone's life > > As far as the $600,000 I know what that is about. > > >
