Guest guest
Hi, , Wow. Let's see. Many people have been hyper before winding up hypo. That's true. Are you saying she's 55 now? Did I send you the info on hormones? There's a chance that the natural progesterone could help her since it does make support the thyroid function. It's also anti-inflammatory and might help those aches and pains. As we get older our estrogen declines but our progesterone declines faster. She could very well be in need of some progesterone. Was it here that I read heart palpitations can be a symptom of anemia? Has her iron been checked recently? Anyway, I'm not sure that I'm much help. But I do think there's a possibility of natural progesterone helping her. But then you'd have to convince HER of that. Good luck. in Va. PS The swollen neck is puzzling. Either it's swollen or just a large neck. I don't know. -> Remind us (me) again of what her symptoms are? Hi , I just spent this past weekend with my mother. She claimns that she does not have the fatigue that I describe. She says she has plenty of energy to get up in the morning and go to work etc... She does have some aching joints and back pain (could be an old injury wreaking havoc). She describes more periods of hyperness than fatigue. She says sometimes she talks so fast that she doesn't know why it is happening. She has always been impulsive and this gets even worse when she is drinking. She has had to start using an asthma inhaler in the past 10 years (she lives in the downtown where it is smoggy though & she smokes). She also has a low immune system (perhaps it's her lifestyle) which includes cold sores, boils, and yeast infections. She has had chest pains and heart palps in the past 10 years that have increased lately. This would have all started around the time she started going into early menopause I suppose (she's 55). She has always had slightly oily, but clear skin (occasional break-out). She says it is dryer now, but she is getting older and it is not NEAR as dry as mine. Also, I have seen this woman eat like a horse. I really don't know anyone else who can eat like her, it's unbelievable. Her finger nails are thin and peeling (they look bad). She has battled bouts of depression (but she has had a horrible life from her own doing). She drinks like a fish and smokes too. Oh, she has had some really high levels of cholesterol in the past. This time it was slightly elevated to 5.89 (this is the Canadian rating, so I don't know how much over would classify as bad), but her HDL's are suprisingly high (the range ended at something like 5.32). Anyway, that's all that I can think of right now. Can some people have a mild Grave's for years? Don't some hyper people burn out into hypo? My mom said she got hyper after me. She has a really bad memory though, so I don't know if she is remembering correctly or what. She has also had this insane libido, but that could be a need to feel accepted (I won't get into details about that). I just don't know. P.S. they said her neck was swollen, but that it was just considered a large neck, not a goiter. I don't really know what they mean. So was it the thyroid or not? My Grandmother had this too (she's hypo), and now it is gone (maybe from thryoid meds?). They did NOT do the antibodies test also.

Yes ...my mother had this (according to her autopsy report)...and although she had some physical hypo symptoms all through her life (heavy periods, TMJ, knee pain)...mostly she was a hyper person. Although there were periods of depression all her life. I would say she was mostly hyper and was that way up until about 3 months before she died. She committed suicide. Serious reclusiveness and depression and stuff in those few months before she died. So yes....she was 61 and bounced back and forth with hyper and hypo all her life until right before her death. Guest guest
Hi , I know this is going to sound like I can't let go of this, but I still think that my mother has a thyroid problem. I am her only child, and she had me quite young, so I wonder if it is possible for a thyroid to sputter back and forth between hyper and hypo for this long? She did mention periods of fatigue too, but for the most part she talks about having too much energy. She has battled womens problems for years (very heavy and painful periods with ovarion cysts). She has been in and out of depression, but she has had a rough life from childhood on (me too, but somehow I have managed to deal, accept, and forgive). She lives in her past, unfortunately. She has trouble sleeping at night, and wakes up several times througout the night (I was like this years ago before my TSh went out of range after the babies - 6.63). My other labs were normal, but I certainly was not. I have had hyper periods too, but for the most part I have had low energy etc... She has back aches and knee pain. Also, she complains about her fingers aching (she thinks it's arthritis). I am just so mad that her doctor refused the anitbodies test. I mean, people can have antibodies for both Grave's and Hashi's, and their labs can counter-balance and show normal results. Maybe I should just give this up for now. She's satisfied, so I better leave it alone. Oh, she is on HRT, which I have tried to convince her to quit it and go natural, but she's not interested at this time. She think they changed her life etc... Anyway, thanks for your imput . P.S. An Aunt of mine on the other side of the family was feeling tired etc...(HYPO symptoms). I told her about me and what tests to get checked (free T's and antibodies). I also refered her to the About.com site to find a good doc. Turns out she has hashi's too. Guess I am not way off in my hypo knowledge . > Hi, , > Wow. Let's see. Many people have been hyper before winding up hypo. That's true. Are you > saying she's 55 now?
