I vote for hyphenation because the noun still follows it. :)

I know that this is correct:

There is a 1-cm cyst in the right ovary.

But, if the doctor dicates this:

There is a 1 cm left ovarian cyst

would I still hypenate the " 1-cm " ? I'm not sure how " close " this needs to

be to the noun to still modify it, and therefore to hypenate it. Any

suggestions?

I was going to vote for hyphenating it too but I was waiting to see what

someone else said! Since Rennie agreed, I'm no longer afraid to answer.

Don't want to look like a fool!

Why not? I do it all the time. I think that is how we learn. But Rennie is

right. They are all

adjectives modifying the noun.
