I am desperate to find a before and aftercare program for my middle schooler. He

is currently registered at Coral Springs Middle and they don't offer either. I

have to be at work in Pembroke Pines at 7:30 and don't get home until 5:00. His

school hours are from 9-3. I would LOVE some advice from other parents who are

going through this same situation. I know I can't be the only one. No one in

with Broward County Schools has been able to provide any type of solution or

help. Please please please ANY ideas or input would be greatly appreciated!!!

Children's Services Council funds many afterschool providers for children with special needs. They post the list and contact info on their webside www.cscbroward.org under funded programs or you can call them at .

Does anyone have experience with any of these programs? Do any of these programs truly provide 'structured' activities for our kids? What is typically the adult to child ratio? What do they do?Sent on the Sprint® Now Network from my BlackBerry®From: RLisme1@...Date: Thu, 20 Aug 2009 22:01:30 EDTTo: <sList >Subject: Re: PLEASE HELP!! Call each one. Depending on your child's need is where the ratio changes. You need to go observe. I had good luck with the Y, after much communication between myself & the staff and it was in her own school at the time.

I believe licensing is a 1 to 25 ratio, so for YMCA and Broward Parks, it is likely that. But for ARC and UCP, they accommodate kids with special needs.

My daughter attends the Adult program at Cypress Park in CS. I think they just have adults and HS students. For the adults, it's 4:1; for the teens I think it's 10:1 - but they all work together. She loves it there. The staff is very caring and compassionate. Some of them have been doing this for years. Many work in different school's autism programs. Call the Y for info and sites for middle-schoolers. My only complaint is that now they seem to be shuffling staff around, maybe more frequently now. I don't know if the Y is starting more programs. That's hard for her because she gets attached to people. I did observe prior, and you have to do an intake. It's worth a try.Meryl

But do these programs pick up and

deliver? That really seems to be the issue. I am having the same issue at

Forest Glen Middle. I went through a service at work (Lifecare) and they came

up with:

Kids

in Motion will pick up from Middle school if there is a minimum of 3 children

being picked up from the school – rates $250 Per month – contact is Donna

at – max age 13

YMCA

Boca will offer child care up to age 14, but no details on pickup – info will

be available towards the end of August – contact is Stevie at

The

other option they gave was looking up local child care providers (people

who do so in their home) within walking distance from the school.

Right now I am battling with busing ( it

is on his IEP but no one knows if the bus is coming on Monday or not) and will

be relying on my older daughter to watch him after school until she goes to

practice. Hubby and I are fighting over how to handle the mornings still

Good luck!

Dianne
