, My insurance card shows it as one word, no hyphen. But then, do you

really want to trust an insurance carrier or not. That's just the only place I

could think of to look it up. Sorry I can't be of more help, Margaret

Should *co-pay* be hyphenated or not? I couldn't find it in Webster's either way

and google had lots of sites with it both ways. I'm so frustrated with AAMT

changing their traditional rules of hypen use.

TIA

Hi ,

I vote for co-pay with the hyphen. Just my opinion.

No, do not hyphenate " copay. " But then, it's a short form of " copayment, " so

you might want to spell it out. My inclination is

that " copay " is slang or medical-office jargon. I question whether it is in

wide use outside the medical-office environment.

The general rule on words that begin with " co " is to write them solid (no

hyphen) unless there are consecutive o's that would

confuse pronunciation. For example, " co-operative " may be mispronounced without

the hyphen. " ate " doesn't need a hyphen. Other words, such as

" cooperation, " may be decided on a case-by-case

basis.
