Hi everyone! My name is Jess and I've been lurking on this list for a

few days now. I used to work in medical records until I got married and

became a SAHW. I've been interested in medical transcription for a

couple of years now and now that I have a baby girl I'd like to learn

this from home and hopefully work from home. I tried to ask this on

another transcription list for people that were just starting out, but

never got an answer, so I thought that I'd ask this here. For any of you

that took a distance learning class or an online course, do you recommend

any certain places to take the course from? I've done a little research

and I have found the Virtual Learning Center, M-TEC (Medical

Transcription Education Center), and Laird's School of Medical

Transcription. Does anyone have any advice for me or recommend where

they took their classes from? I'm really interested in learning this and

I want to make sure that I get the best training possible.

I graduated from At-Home Professions in August of this year. It took a few

months (nobody wants to hire a newbie), but I finally started my first real

at-home transcription job. It was scary the first time I heard how fast

those docs talk! I didn't know if I could do it, but after calming down and

listening through a time or two, I started getting it. The lady said I was

going to make a liar out of her about not hiring people straight out of

school. So I would say that At-Home Professions did a good job. I've been

getting lots of praise from the proofers. :o)

By the way, they offer a payment plan for $100 up front for the first course

(out of five, $450 each), and then $50 per month, really very reasonable.

I'm still paying on it, but I already have my certificate. They don't hold

it back from you until you finish paying, so you can get started looking for

work right away.

Good Luck!

Hi ... and welcome!!

I am currently " re-schooling " - enrolled in the text version @ Career Step.

I took a home-study course some three years ago but feel, in retrospect,

that it just may not have been quite as comprehensive as it could have been.

At the time tho', I thought it was just fine. Long story even longer ... I

am currently working (3 accounts) and struggling to fit this course in, but

I'm quite determined as it seems to be a GREAT one. Go to:

www.careerstep.com for more details and pricing. They do offer a monthly

payment deal too if ya' need that. There are other good ones out there but

sorry to report that I'm not familiar with most. Hope this helps ya' ......
