Hi Y'all - I was really sorry to read about . I saw her Friday night

just as she was starting her downhill slide. When I was there she had become

really nauseous and had to get a shot. Still no gas or BM, and she had been

unable to pee, so they put the catheter back in.

When they talk about her intestines being asleep, they mean that they

have stopped working - temporarily - the medical tern is a paralytic ileus.

Did you ever have a virus, or even eat too much and feel like you had a

pinecone right in the middle of your belly? Maybe even a pineapple? You

probably had an ileus. You need to pass gas but you can't, you know you want

to have diarrhea, but nothing will come out. All that happens is that you

throw up.

Anything that " insults " the bowel can cause a paralytic ileus. Virus,

food poisoning, SURGERY, and pain medicine just to name a few. THey put the

NG back (orange nasal-gastric tube) down to decompress the bowel, and get rid

of the stomach acid. The only thing to do is to wait - keep her comfortable,

medicine for nausea, maybe change her pain meds - it will go away. I'm sure

that is miserable, but she is really not in any danger, and they won't

be rushing her back to the OR unless something else happens.

Lets all pray for , but don't become alarmed. (this is why Kris

gets so excited when a post op farts!!! it means everything is awake and

working)

What an asset you are to our group! We are blessed to have you. I have

learned so much from your responses. Keep it up. You are worth your weight

(or should I say at least double your weight) in GOLD.

,

Thank you so much for explaining everything about to us. I was so

worried that she was in real trouble. I will keep on praying for her & I

know she will be okay.

Blessings,

Thank you Sandy...I hope I don't come across as a know it all - cuz believe

me I Don't (know it all that is) I have been blessed with a good medical

education and a physician husband, so I try to share what I have learned -

But I have also learned so much from the others on the site. Its true, what

goes around comes around. Promise to tell me if I start to sound like I'm

lecturing - that is NEVER my intent.
