Also 2 backpacks. 2) Breastpumps: 5, a Boots one handed, a sort of syringe/sink plunger thing, a battery operated one that I borrowed from my SIL and lost, an Avent Isis (freebie from a bf course) and the wonderful bicycle horn you can get on prescription. Have also hired the big electric Egnell. Total milk expressed over the years..........about 4 oz! 3) Prams: I've had 8 of these - my original Silver Cross Wayfarer 3 in 1, a borrowed SCW chassis with the extra bit that the borrowed car seat clips on to, a basic Maclaren with no swivel or lie back, a better Maclaren with the features I realised I needed, a brand new Mothercare umbrella fold suitable from birth, a Silver Cross tandem double, another tandem double whose make I can't remember and an Emmaljunga Grizzly with toddler seat. 4) Anything else? We've no room for anything else! Guest guest Posted August 18, 2000 Report Share Posted August 18, 2000 All this talk about collecting slings etc, I thought it would be fun to have a poll to find out how mad we really are: How many of each of these have you used (bought or borrowed): 1) Slings [3] . mothercare circa 1975, one M\care circa 1979, both rubbish. One Wilkinet 1996, brill! 2) Breastpumps: , [ 1] American brand, 1979, when they were almost impossible to buy here. Didn't work on me. 3) Prams: Loads! 1975, Pedigree, green and beige coach built [2nd hand from SIL]. Turquoise carrycot and transporter, Navy blue front facing pushchair, probably like a lot of you had!. Another blue pushchair. 1976 Navy blue coach built, Marmet from Mothercare. Green and white striped original McClaren buggy 1979 One of the very first McClaren Buggy and Carrycot combinations, navy blue. Wish I'd kept it as it was so light. Navy blue front facing pushchair, as before!! 1987 McClaren Cub lie back, forward and rearward facing pushchair.....my first swivel wheels! Yellow and grey McClaren basic. 1996 Mamas and Papas 2in1 swivel wheel chassis, McClaren all-singing-all-dancing buggy. I still have the Marmet and used it for all four. Also still have the 1996 purchases. That makes 12, in all. 4) High chairs, [4] one for each child. A multi use chair, (rocker, floor seat, highchair). A metal thing from Tesco. Collapsible one from M\care. Top of the range from Cossatto and a waste of money. Why did I think I needed all those height adjustments? I still have some things from DD1, who is now 25. All four have worn the same newborn size babygrows and vests. Still use some cot bedding, originally from my niece, now nearly 30, as undersheets on beds. Used it a bit for DD1 pottering round the garden, once/twice when out, but it was sold virtually as new! Oh yes borrowed a Tomy back pack for a couple of outings when dd2 was up to about 18mo DH wore it > 2) Breastpumps: 1. Total expressed - gallons, some went to milk bank > 3) Prams: 1 Mothercare blue/white stripey - bought it cos friend had the carrycot attachment which was so small could only use it till 4 mo - & gave babies a v bumpy ride, they hated it! Buggy was nice cos they coudl sit either way, facing you or away. Still in understairs cupboard. Ours was a hand-me-down from my brother's 3 kids, so it did well (and looked it by the end). Only one cot, but it's been around. DH's 2 greenhouses full of cacti (anyone need any cactus advice - you know your man). Books! Shelves and shelves and shelves. Sewing patterns - buy them and hardly ever make anything. Sorry to disillusion you, Lynda, but I think that's a breast reliever you're describing, not a pump. Used for easing engorgement etc. Not recommended for use as a pump as they are not designed to be sterilised. I am also getting into the idea of nappy collecting - I bought one system which was awful, and now spend hours looking at real nappies and drooling.(says it all!) 1) Slings: a Tomy - newborn neck support useless for my very big babies; a better baby sling, which I returned to the shop cos I preferred another, sling easy which has been used so much it has faded in stripes; also a basic baby back carrier (from an NNs) and a very expensive Mothercare one - nowhere near as good as my sling which I love! 2) Breastpumps: 8, but cheating a bit as some of these are professional! an old Avent, an electric Mothercare (rubbish), an Isis, a display Medela electric, a display avent, a very old syringe pump, and 2 of the electric breastpumps..... and about 5 convert to handpump sets from it!! PS on the subject of useless breast pumps, my tutor said that she tells mothers to return them. When the shop get stroppy ( as they do, cos it's been used) you should get it out of the box, and offer to demonstrate then and there just how ineffective it is. Works like a dream apparently! 3) Prams 6 - a classic pram/pushchair Mamas and Papas; a Swallow buggy (now deceased), a Chicco trekker (lovely), a grotty second hand Mama and Papa's double pushchair for childminding (big, heavy and hard to steer)..anyone got one for sale?, a NNS buggy @ 3.50, a BabiesRUs holiday buggy which DS2 loves - had virtually given up pushchairs before this! 4) car seats 6 - a rock a bye, a rock a tot, a Mothercare, 2 boosters with backs, a normal booster, and borrowed to try - a Tomy super glide, a carrytot, and a Mothercare own thing! Looks like it came out of the ark, but actually quite effective in those early days of engorgement - I could actually fill the little glass dip with blood tinged milk which was quite an achievement for somebody who just *cannot* express. Guest guest Posted August 18, 2000 Report Share Posted August 18, 2000 I'm so glad to see others using so much equipment too! 1) Slings: 2 front carriers both from friends for DS! and DD and one Tomy turn around from NNS for DS2 and DS3, one back pack used from DS1 and brought new, still going strong. 2) Breast pumps 3 2 battery Avent and one hand Boots. Haven't really got on with any of them. 3) Prams first silver cross 2nd hand very heavy but the carry cot got most use in the house for all 4, cheap buggy with fixed wheel, paid to have them swivel still going, one buggy with lie back option from my sister (from her DD now 11), one tandem pushchair, hated it no room after wanted to sit up, now side by side pushchair . Total 5 for 4 children, 4) Highchairs, just one! but 3 seats for it, 2 booster seats in current use. 5) Cots x 3. first was from friends. It had done her sister's 5 girls and her 2 boys and my and Olivia, funnily enough it died before , but got one from my sister that had only done her DS. Currently borrowing a beside the bed cot from BM. If only someone had told me what a great thing this is i would have brought one as it would have had a great deal of use in this house! It has saved my back but now he is beginning to roll onto our bed and I think it is nearly time to put him in the other cot. Mc SAHM 6, Olivia 3, 1, 15/3/00. Slings etc. baby Bjiorn -dh had a fit when i spent 40 quid on this...but he would take it all back now!! Maya Wrap Pouch -no fastenings at all and **brilliant** for carrying a tired toddler as well as its baby applications. DH *hates* it, thinks its hippy-ish and knit your own lentils, doesn't know that I covet a ring held sling too...and DD1 wants a sling for her teddy - she tries to bf him and tie him on with a scarf!! Tomy Dream rider back pack...from NNS for 30 quid unused! they are c 65 new i think Prams Britax Travel system mark one (the one you have to remove the whole oushchair and add a bar before you can use it with the Rock a TOt, but as i didn't drive and got lifts everywhere it was invaluable, also had carry cot which they slept in for 3 mths Maclaren Duette double good but underused... (bought by MIL) most used -ancient 2 pos Mclaren donated by a frind of Mums now on its 5th or 6th child -lives in the car will need replaceing soon..... WANT....the buggy board from NCTMS...so it'll fit on the Britax (for local use) and the Mclaren (for ehrn we go out in the car) 1 cot ELC boston, fixed sides, very solid 2 baby futons 1 Avent manual (just befor the Isis came out) and one ISIS!! cos i had to try it amount expressed -loads (triumph of hope over experience!) amnount drunk -1 oz Angi *still* can't get mail Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

And glad to know it isn't just some virus passed on via cloth nappies :-)))))))) > >How many of each of these have you used (bought or borrowed): > >1) Slings: Tomy 3 way thing - great 2 ways but not for backs Tomy plastic framed back carrier - bought one of these after we used a National Trust loan one at Lydford Gorge Tomy metal framed back carrier - passed on - very useful to have the two given the ages of our children and this one is lighter so better for the heavier child Better Baby Sling in the obligatory back watch tartan (four in use at a recent LLL meeting) - mainly, but often, used for door to car trips and very useful to take along so we can just use one 'perambulator' mostly walking and swap out into the sling. Also can occasionally be fooled it is a 'cloth' in dire circumstances. Very exclusive :-) sling made by of BouncyBaby from fabric designed, printed and dyed by my sister, same design as her wedding dress, to match breastfeeding dress. Lie flat was too short for from birth! OK once he could sit up at all. What a fantastic idea ! they are great... when DD1 was born there hadjust been the matress scare...so i went with the futon thing, if we could have afforded it we would have goe the whole organic wool route but.... both our girls have loved theirs -got them made to size for our cot, gret now for dd1 if we go away and there isn't a spare bed, or for a (smallish ) adult sleeping on sick childs floor.... also used as a mat when dd1 tranferred to a bed....would be great alongside an adult one for family bedding too. we got ours from New Moon Futons who have an advert in the centre of the NCT sales Cat. I'm sure I would have got one of these instead of the double buggy when dd2 was born.
