Insulin and Type 2

I have a question for all you experts. When I was diagnosed with Type 2

(about 15 months ago) my doctor told me I could probably avoid having to

take insulin for 2 years. Since then I've been on Metformin (which didn't

agree with me) and now Glyburide. How does a doctor *decide* that it's time

to go on insulin? I'm not afraid of taking it, that's not an issue, but I

was wondering why she would say that.
