I would talk to a counselor if you have not recently. This problem can disrupt

your diabetes control and you will feel bad for that as well as binging. I

understand though. I find myself just eating sweets more then I should at times.

I'm kinda dissappointed in myself but I didn't take any laxatives last

night so I'm pleased about that. I just don't know what to do. And to

top it off I binged on sugary cereal, ice cream, and sweet/cheese rolls.

Does anyone have any advice for me.

<< Does anyone have any advice for me. >>

,

I suffered from anorexia (although I was never hospitalized for the

condition and do feel that for the most part I was able to confront

and overcome it through years of intense therapy, although I *do*

still deal with certain consequences of my behavior even now) in my

mid-to-late 20s, up until within a year of my diabetes diagnosis in

1997. There was *one* part of your message in particular that

struck a very deep chord in me. If you would like to e-mail me

privately (india910@...), please feel free to do so. Hopefully I

will be able to offer you some support.

If you have a psych you can go to, do so. It is hard enough to have an

eating disorder without diabetes, but with it, you put yourself in some

big-time danger!

Please get help. Usually it is not something one can quit on their own if

they are into it deeply at all.

Good luck to you and keep us posted.

Dear ,

I know that diabetes and eating disorders can be awful when combined.

Have you thought of a group like OA? They have a lot of people in there

that are diabetic too..you can even do a lot of it online and get a

online sponsor etc.

I can't say that I know exactly what you are going through. I can only

imagine what you are going through. I hope you will get yourself the help

you need and if you need a shoulder please feel free to email me privately.

You shouldn't be disappointed in yourself because as I understand it bulimia

is not something you should try to handle on your own. Go see your

counselor and maybe if you try to keep the sweets out of sight or even out

of the house this might help. Just think of this as a setback and start all

over again. I think I speak for the entire list when I say " We are all here

for you no matter what and will do all that we can to help you through

this. " Please keep us/me posted on your progress. Best of luck.

Lotsa Hugs,

, have you tried Overeaters Anonymous? It's a program similar to AA but

deals with food addictions.

I am in counseling and have been so for about 2.5 years now. My

therapist is doing everything he can to get an eating disorder group

started so I'd have a regular, constant outlet for my emotions. He's

keeping a close eye on me because I am diabetic also.

I thought about joining OA last year but I don't have transportation and

it's kinda far out for their meetings. That's why I'm waiting for them

to start the group where I hae therapy because the facility is right up

the street from where I live.

, congratulations for not taking the laxatives! That was

definitely a step in the right direction and you should feel good

that you were able to not do it.

I have been convinced for years that my mother has both a mental

disorder and bulimia, for many reasons. She came over the other day

and laughed about how she bought a dozen donuts for a fundraiser and

wasn't going to eat them for a couple of days, then sat down and ate

them all. All I could think was how many carbs that is. The thing

is, she probably vomitted later and just chose not to mention that

part. It is definitely a serious issue and I cannot encourage you

enough to get some counseling or attend a group meeting or

something. I lived with mom for 18 yrs and remember her behaviors

very well. It is a scary disease and in need of treating, just like

a broken leg or your diabetes.

I also congratulate you on having the courage to post about it. I

think you are doing much better than maybe you realize!

Have you seen your therapist/psychiatrist, or do you have one?

, good luck in your obstacle. I am sure you can overcome this. I have herd

many success stories of other women who overcome this problem. Let us know how

you do.

ps. I am not saying men dont have this problem.

, you mentioned that you have a mental disorder, if I remember

correctly. Are you taking medications to control this? Do you think

that might be a trigger for your bulimia?

Debi,

I do have a therapist and psychiatrist. I just saw my therapist on the

7th and have another appointment with him on the 20th. I see my

psychiatrist on the 16th.

Debi,

Yes I'm on meds for a mental illness (major depression with psychotic

features, borderline personality disorder, bulimia) and I'm taking 300

mg of seroquel (which I need increased because I'm having a hard time

getting to sleep and my paranoia is back), 3 mg of risperdal, and 37.5

mg of paxil cr. I don't think the meds have triggered my bulimia because

I've been on these meds for about 3 years now. I've always had problems

with food (started when I was 19 I'm now 28).

I hope you can get some help from them. Do you think you need some

medication adjustments? Please don't give up your struggle, you can

beat this thing!

Debi,

The only medication adjustment I know I need for sure is my Seroquel

because my paranoia is back and I'm having a hard time falling and

staying sleep.
