Guest guest
I was told that diabetics shouldn't get tatoos. (Some years ago, before I was diagnosed, a friend of mine went to get a tattoo and took me along to 'hold his hand' [metaphorically speaking]. There was a big sign in the tattoo shop listing medical conditions which would preclude tattooing, and one of them was diabetes.) /Diabetic medical alert bracelets etc Yes that's what I am finding out! LOL $$$$$ I am thinking of a wrist tattoo. That way I can continue to wear my jewlery. I don't know if it would all blend together later in life having a tattoo or as I get older and wrinkly...LOL
Guest guest
That wouldn't surprise me at all. As prone as we diabetics seem to be to dry skin and skin infections I can't imagine getting a tattoo. I've never been inclined to get tattoos anyway so its not a temptation for me like a donut in front of my face would be. LOL. Guest guest
That being said--and at the risk of seeming to contradict myself--it seems that there are diabetics around who have been able to get tattoos safely and successfully. As this is such an individualized disease, one would have to make one's own choices. Anyone who asked me, I would suggest that s/he not do it unless (a) his/her blood sugars were under very good control, ( s/he had no history of poor healing or of skin infections, and © s/he really, really wanted one enough to risk it. Guest guest
The important thing is infection. As with all cuts and scrapes, blisters, etc. we have to act quickly and not take chances. Same with a tattoo. If you start to see it not healing, or it's tender, or won't stop bleeding, or crusty, you know to seek medical attention. Infections can be cleared up without a problem. It's just getting the infection taken care of and not waiting. I didn't have any problems with mine and you shouldn't if you follow the tattoo care. It's a risk but everything in life is. Tattoos are more of a high risk for getting hepatitis than anything. > That being said--and at the risk of seeming to contradict myself--it > seems that there are diabetics around who have been able to get tattoos > safely and successfully.
