I've had a blister come up today on my lip and I'm really annoyed because our company ball is on Friday night! ARGH! I've got some cream that contains idoxuridine, lignocaine hydrochloride and benzalkonium chloride but I'm hoping I can do more to knock it on the head ASAP. cheers > -----Original Message----- > > I just found some good news. Guest guest Posted August 4, 1999 Report Share Posted August 4, 1999 , My sister used to be plagued with cold sores, and found that putting Ben Gay on the blister would help to dry it out (strange but true...must be the camphor). It will sting quite a bit when you first put it on. Now she is able to control the cold sores by taking a Zovirax pill as soon as she feels her lip start to tingle, or when she knows she's at risk for one (out in the sun a lot, or feeling run down), and that stops the blister from forming. Whenever i feel an itch i put it on and nothing comes of it. Guest guest Posted August 6, 1999 Report Share Posted August 6, 1999 Group, I never leave home without zovirax (called zovir here in Iceland and is finally over-the-counter) and use it on my lips as soon as I feel the itch or hardening that precedes a blister. The result depends on how soon I discover it. I was used to get those blisters much more often than nowadays and more severe. But I keep a tube with zovir in my pocket nevertheless; that has long since become an habit. I have a red spot on my upper lip from a cold sore which we tried to zap last time I had Photoderm. It faded but needs more. (In case you weren't already aware of this.) Evidently it helps shorten the healing time. I know the cold sores aren't anywhere near as large as they used to be and also don't occur as frequently.
