Guest guest
I wonder how many of us change their lancet after each use?
Guest guest
That's what I was instructed to do. Re: lancets > I wonder how many of us change their lancet after each use?
Guest guest
I change mine after *every* stick, for sanitary reasons. We diabetics are prone to develop infections more easily, that may not be controlled as well. We also develop peripheral vascular disease, and I don't want to court disaster. Re-using a lancet: every time you re-cap the lancet, you are possibly bending it. Can you imagine sticking yourself with that? OUCHIES! Or damaging it another way. And if you wipe it with alcohol it can take away some of the protective covering of the metal. More ouchies! Yes, my insurance does pay for them, but even if they didn't I'd still discard them after one use. These little things are so inexpensive, that re-using them seems to me to be silly. Guest guest
I know it's not the best practice, and I'm trying to do better. I test myself an awful lot, 10-12 times per day. If I spent all my time changing needles and lancets, I'd have no time to work. I know that's not an excuse, but it's the risk I take. I'm trying to start changing them, 1/week. > > In a message dated 4/1/2004 7:03:36 PM Eastern Standard Time, > > blazr243@h... writes: > > Re-using a lancet: every time you re-cap the lancet, you are > possibly > > bending it. > > I don't re-cap my lancets when i reuse them! Guest guest
How do you test so often. Even if you test before every meal and 2 hours after every meal, and upon waking am and before bed, that is still only 8 times. and may I ask (cause this is all new to me) why do you test so often? Is there a specific reason? Very curious, and wondering if I am testing often enough. I tend to test about 2-4 times a day. sueluvcin wrote: > I know it's not the best practice, and I'm trying to do better. I > test myself an awful lot, 10-12 times per day. Guest guest
Being on an insulin pump, at least at the beginning, you are required to test that many times especially between 3AM and waking (almost every hour). Before when I was just on insulin it was 8-10 times per day. I know most type 2's don't need to test that often because they don't have the problems with the insulin peaks and valleys. I know 4 times a day is pretty average for the type 2. Hope that answere your question. > > > > In a message dated 4/1/2004 7:03:36 PM Eastern Standard Time, > > > > blazr243@h... writes: > > > > Re-using a lancet: every time you re-cap the lancet, you are > > > possibly > > > > bending it. > > > > I don't re-cap my lancets when i reuse them!
