I did extensive research on MSM that culminated in an article for the

excellent EDS Today journal published by & Barbara

Uggen- - I've just looked all over and can't find the issue it was

published in, the article they published was much more complete than the

email about MSM I will send next. Perhaps one of them might be good enough

to remind me/us which issue the article appeared in.

I did want to say something to Debbi - if you're allergic to something then

OF COURSE you should not be taking it!

Just like any other thing you're allergic to. I've been taking high doses

of MSM for over 2 years now and have seen an incredible improvement in my

pain levels with absolutely no negative side effects.

****Please folks don't let one person who had a bad reaction due to an

allergy and who did not read a food supplement label before taking it make

the decision for you - MSM is still a miracle for me and I can't recommend

it more highly!****

my next email to the list will be all about MSM.

ps ... please try the Vit C as a natural laxative, up your dosage

until you see a response. C really does work. Personally I much prefer

trying natural food supplements for various problems before submitting to

the more serious laxatives/medicines with tons of side effects. And pls

let us know how it works for you. I find it truly amazing that our doctors

don't give us this very basic information. They'd much rather prescribe

serious pain meds without understanding - much less letting their patients

know - about the serious side effects of these meds.

I learned the hard way. Didn't look at the label. Assumed it would be fine.

I am totally allergic to sulfur and wa la! Sicker than a dog! So if you are

allergic to sulfur (or even just shell fish) you might ask your doctor

before taking it Debbi

Spring-Summer 2001. Back issues available online at

P.S. Don't forget Bowen! She's an instrumental part of EDS Today

too - Memorials and LEAD ARTICLE! We couldn't do this without her.

Um... I did say it was " caution " didn't I?

Not that it should NOT be taken.

I did say you should discuss with your doctor didn't I?

I am a little baffled how you would assume that my post would lead someone to

NOT taking it at all and feel the need to caution about it.

Also, I am not the only one who does not read labels on occasion. There are

times where I am just too tired or in too much pain to stand in Cost-CO isle

and peruse. When I got the bottle home I forgot I had not read it. Pain

medication and feeling like crap every day of your life will sometime lead

you to be less than diligent.

I just thought my bad experience would encourage others to read labels.

Sorry!

Please don't appologise Debbi,

I too have allergies some which we haven't dentified yet and I need

to know if someone has had a bad reaction to something and what the

reaction was as sometimes, I DON'T know if what I am experiencing is

normal or an allergic reaction. I thank you from the bottom of my

heart for the caution. I don't really like shellfish so haven't

really been exposed to it, and that can mean if you haven't had a lot

of exposure you can develop and allergy. I never read labels (well

hardly ever) and half the time they hide it in medical terms, like I

wouldn't know that suphur compounds affect someone with shellfish

allergies. My list of allergies seems to be growing every day. and

sometimes, if yu start more than one thing at a time, you don't know

whichis the culprit, with a caustionary warning of your personal

experience it helps those like me who have to be very cautious when

trying new things.

I have just been started on glucosamine and chromium (1 at a time of

course) and so far I haven't noticed any bad reactions except maybe

gas/flatulence. I will have to look over my pain diary to see as I

keep a diary of all the meds I take in a day what time I take them,

everything I eat, all activity I do, all pain and symptoms, and my

emotional state, the weather adn also at the moment my top body temp

for the day as i am on like 3-4 times watch a day incase I am brewing

some sort of infection in my hip???

So again thank you for the cautionary warning of YOUR experience.

Please keep this up. It wont deter me from trying something but will

allow me to be on guard for a bad reaction and have my steriods on

hand in the house (I have prednisolone in case of severe allergic

reaction) Not anaphalaxis as I have been lucky not to have suffered

this yet, I have come close though and spent 5 days on steroids to

undue the allergic reaction.

So at least with a warning I can make sure my steriod prescription is

filled and in the house and i haven't run out, same with my other

allergy medications(9such as my anit histamines, Oxis, Pulmicort, and

ventolin)

So thank you adn I would appreciate any further warnings and cautions

of reactions that others have suffered.
