Guest guest
Hi Becky, I'm not an expert but a 94 BS is not a low. I think that we are all so use to seeing our blood sugars high that when they finally start coming down we think ohmygod. LOL That's me anyway. I understand your concern though because the first time I saw mine go under 100 I was panicking. But if you are concerned just eat a little something. I usually go by how I feel. If i feel nervous or shaky, then I just eat a little even if I am at around 110. Hope this helps and good luck. Kat
Guest guest
Your bodily over-reaction to 94 must be because you are new to lower levels. I try not to eat unless my level is below 100, but I have been used to letting numbers go down to 70 for a long time. I try not to let them get lower than that, though. It takes a while to bring type II diabetes completely under control. You are doing very well. Patty Type II, 1998, diet and exercise kittynicekitty wrote: > Kat, thank you so much for posting! Guest guest
Becky I would not have something that gave me a quick trigger of sugar like orange juice before going out. I would try something more substantial/long-lasting like a protein serving, a veggie and 1 or 2 slices of bread with margerine. I would take a snack like crackers & cheese or peanut butter for " just in case " low blood sugar. How did you feel at 94? The more I jerk my sugar around with quick triggers the more it's unsteady. Of course, you may have something different going on and have different results. Good luck, and Wow to you on your Halloween plans & attitude, Becky! Guest guest
Becky -- And, that's what I like about you -- I have had the carbs craving after eating other carbs for about 35 years. I know it well! I think we produce too much insulin in response to doses of sugar and starch in our stomachs. Especially on an empty stomach. With me, unfortunately, what really has always worked is just meat, fish, poultry, milk, and low-sugar veggies (like cucumbers). Anything sweeter is actually a trigger. Now that I have high blood sugars and take glucophage, I think it has changed to where I can have some bread/crackers/pasta/oatmeal and the bg stays ok, but I do then crave more of the same food. Like you, I think I need to change my attitude (nothing like serious health problems to help us do that). This week I'm going to try going it on protein, some skim milk (dairy bad for cancer), and veggies alone and see how I do, if I can arrange enough calories out of that to keep a bird alive. I think V-8 juice is nearly like skim milk in the GI index so I may substitute that for milk. See ya' Janie Janie > ...I would not have something that gave me a quick trigger of sugar > like orange juice before going out....
