> Im in the same boat - that is trying to decide if I should have

surgery or wait and see. I have a diagnosed septate uterus, havent

had a miscarriage - my husband and I met with an RE on Mon to consult

about the surgery. He says its up to us - that the surgery isn't

that bad but that many women with SU have no problems conceiving and

carrying to term. We're thinking that we are going to try to have a

baby first without the surgery. I'm hoping that the numbers are on

the high end - meaning typically the only way women find out they

have a SU is if they have problems conceiving - meaning we dont

really know how many successful SU moms there are...

Hi ,

I hope that you find lots of information to help you make your

decision. If you go to the website for this group and click

on " files " then open the " med articles " folder, go to the 6th article

down " MA dxttreat.doc " It was a really good article that I found

when I was doing some research about SUs. The decision for surgery

will really be up to you. Some drs feel that resection should only

be done if m/c has occurred, some feel that if an SU is found, it

should be handled prior to ttc. If you are going to an RE for

fertility treatments, he will likely recommend resection, providing

you are a good candidate, because it not only can cause m/c, but you

may find that it takes you longer to get pg. My RE said that SU can

cause an early loss of an implanted embryo before I would even

suspect that I was pg or before that hcg is detectable by a HPT.

It's a hard decision, esp. if your septum is not large and you have

not suffered a loss. We have a member here, (mommy2sammy is

her logon, I think)that has SU but was not a candidate to have the

surgery. The dr was afraid that removing it would weaken the uterus

too much. She just recently gave birth to her 2nd child, but I also

know that she has suffered at least one m/c (I don't remember if

there were more).

Good luck to you and let us know if you have questions. There is

lots of experience here on both sides of the decision you are faced

with.
