Guest guest
When I was pregnant this time last year, I could have really used a success story. So...it's my turn now to tell you mine. I have a bicornuate uterus with a double cervix. I became pregnant on IUI#6 using follistim. It was on Valentine's Day 2002 that I had my first ultrasound and was told I was pregnant with twins! Rather than it being the happy occasion it should have been, I was then told that my chances of carrying to a live birth were slim. Both eggs had implanted on the small side of my uterus. I was probably going to run out of room before I got to the point of minimum viability outside the womb. Also...one embie was very small and would probably vanish. Because I'm from a rural area, I wasn't referred to a Peri. I saw my OB every 2 weeks from my first appointment on. He monitored me very closely for cervical length and did numerous ultrasounds. He was very upfront about my chances, but he told me to take " one day at a time. " Well...I did take " one day at a time " and refused to get discouraged. I continued to work and everything went without complication until my 32 week appointment. I was dilated to 2cm and put on bedrest. As a precaution, I was given steriod shots to develop the babies' lungs in case I went into labor. As it turned out, I was a scheduled C-section at 36 weeks 2 days. (My doctor didn't want to take the chance of my uterus rupturing.) I delivered boy/girl twins weighing 5 lbs. 1 oz. and 4 lbs. 13 ozs. The boy had some breathing problems at birth and spent 2 days in the NICU. But..he was sent home without monitors and has been just fine ever since. The purpose of this long post is.....Miracles do happen. Don't get discouraged! I have two beautiful babies to prove it!!
