Guest guest
OhMyGosh!!! I don't believe this!! The dr. left a msg on my daughter's answering machine TODAY (over 2 weeks AFTER the spinal tap) saying that the tests came back POSITIVE for viral meningitis!! He also said, " But if he isn't having any problems, then I don't think we have anything to worry about. " Wouldn't you guys say that having severe migraines, running 104 temp., slight personality change, wanting to nap all the time (which is VERY unlike him), would be considered " having problems " ....???? My daughter called the doc back, with me on the phone. We only got to talk to the nurse, but I must say I vented on her. She said, " Well, if you want to have a doctor check him over, we can see you tomorrow. " Of course, we made an appointment for 9 a.m., but what will they do in " checking him over? " I had been livid over the fact that we were never told to keep him flat on his back after the spinal tap, but I'm ballistic now knowing that he has had meningitis and they kept telling us it was just an ear infection!!!!!!!!!! Will some of you that are nurses and/or in the medical field (also others of you that have knowledge or an opinion on this) please email me back with any information and suggestions about what we should have them do at his appt tomorrow morning. Also, is viral meningitis contagious? I've looked in all my medical books and can't find anything saying that it is. I hate to take your time with something that's totally unrelated to RP, but when I have ANY kind of problem, I seem to be turning to this group more and more often. I always get quick, informative responses and I appreciate that.....very much. Thanks all, T.

IT DOES STATE THAT VIRAL MENINGITIS IS USUALLY NOT SERIOUS, CLEARS UP W/I A WEEK OR TWO, AND LEAVES NO AFTEREFFECTS. I'M HAPPY TO KNOW THAT. HOPE YOUR GRANDSON FEELS BETTER. Guest guest
, I have just read you message and I am VERY concerned. My daughter had virus menigitis at age 5. Our doc was so concerned he spent the night at the hospital just to be with us. She was running a very high fever (I forget how high) and, all sorta stuff. He had a spinal tap done, which the technicians probed and probed before hitting the correct spot. Was in isolation for a week. I had to wear mask, etc. He told us at that time (about 41 yrs ago) they did not know very much about virus m. but did know you could not treat the same as spinal (that treatment only agitated it). They kept her on her back and still for some time. She spent a week in the hospital, then he kept close check for awhile. He did say it was NOT contagious. She has been alright, so far as we know. But, has had severe headaches from time to time since. I have wondered if this could have some affect of her getting RP. Boy, I'm sure not much comfort to you, I'm sorry. But, if they will treat your grandchild maybe will be fine again soon.. Here's hoping and praying. God Bless Jo P.S May I suggest, please get another doc if he doesn't do something real soon. I don't know much about meningitis but I will check it out tonight. And have your daughter consider looking for a new doctor, this one is just too slow for my likeing. 2 weeks and it is positive is out of the question Angie

Guest guest
I agree. I think it is contagious.. Otherwise, why did they keep my dgtr in isolation so many days? Guest guest
Many, many thanks to each and every one of you that responded to my plea of help regarding my grandson. We took him to the dr. yesterday, they couldn't find his chart. :>O They flushed his ear and got a LOT of wax out of it. The doc said none of this makes sense. He didn't think he had viral meningitis (they WHY did the spinal tap come back positive???), but didn't know why he was having all the symptoms. His temperature was low. The doc wanted us to have some blood tests done. Now, THAT, was traumatic. And said he would call today with the results. I asked him if viral meningitis was contagious, and he said absolutely not. My daughter called me after hearing from the doc. He said the tests came back " within normal ranges " and my grandson did NOT have viral meningitis. This is all so confusing to all of us. I just wish they could explain to me why he has headaches and is tired all the time. We're taking him to his diabetes specialist next week, so hopefully he can shed some light on the situation. Anyway, I just wanted to say a big thank you for your quick and informative responses. (, thanks for asking your other group for their input.) I'll keep you informed. Love, T.
