Guest guest
Hello, I have questions about the diagnosis of my 27 month old boy. He is speech delayed and has tactile defensiveness, mainly with his mouth (he was fine with rice, beans, swimming and sandbox after a slow introduction). His speech is minimally understandable, he has about 50 words, uses a couple of 2 word combinations and seems to be about normal in receptive language. He omits syllables in some words (ie., " Buddy " is " Bee " ) He eats poorly, I feed him myself (otherwise he wont eat) and he eats pureed food still. With his speech therapist, we've been working on muscle development in is mouth and jaw and he can now tolerate a little texture in his food and he can blow bubbles and toot a whistle. He had " silent reflux " , never had symptoms until about age 20 months when I began to feed him in front of the TV - he started to eat more and developed some symptoms of reflux. We started him on Zantac and he's eating more and eating better now. My question is whether he has problems due to the undiagnosed reflux or is it likely that he has speech problems in addition to reflux? Is there any way to find out for sure? I give him ProEFA and Carn-Aware, these dont seem to have made much difference in the 3 months he's been taking them. Any insight would be appreciated. Guest guest
Hi again, It's Kris in Colorado. Sorry it's taken me so long to reply. I lost your email address when or computer crashed shortly after Chase's surgery. The last time we emailed was when we exchanged pictures of our little angels. I too was wondering if there was a connection between Apraxia and reflux. As you may recall, Chase was dx'd with severe GERD as an infant, had a nissen fundoplication, and in April had a feeding tube placed. He also has Dyspraxia ( the dx from his OT,ST) A.K.A oral/verbal Apraxia. Feel free to email me directly. I would love to here how Adam is doing.
