Guest guest
Hi all There was a really interesting article on ptl and premature babies in today's New York Times - health section- by Jane Brody. The article was mainly about women with no known reason for ptl - so it leaves us out intentionally. Once you get past all the depressing stories, although she does point out the better success rate in recent years, and the underlying blaming of women who wait too long (which I can't stand reading about because for us waiting is not an issue), it raised several interesting points. 1) Most drugs do not delay labor significantly - the only beneficial delay is the time to give the drug to enhance fetal lung development 2)Giving women progesterone is the only proven mechanism to slow down ptl. Does this jibe with the discussions here? Were those who were/are pg put on progesterone for their whole terms - should we with MA's be asking for this?
