Guest guest
Generally when I look at diet plans I am not impressed. They seem to lean too heavily toward one thing or another. Atkins' unlimited access to fats, ADA's emphasis on carbs, both bother me. South Beach is a bit restrictive in terms of size of portions, I think, but it seems a little bit more balanced nutritionally. I've done well on the original Carb Addicts plan. But any eating plan needs to take into consideration not only the person's lifestyle and personal biology, but also their personal taste. I don't like vegetables. So sue me. I just don't. I like corn, of course, and potatoes. I'll eat broccoli and asparagus and carrots and cauliflower and green beens. I'll force down a salad once a day, as long as there aren't any radishes or onions or green pepper or herbs... Beans are blah, and I've got Irritable Bowel on top of this, so I overreact to many of the " healthier " diets with terrible stomach and intestinal cramps. Although I didn't break 100 lbs until I was 21, and was a skinny tiny child, I always had a HUGE appetite -- my college buddies joked that I had a tapeworm! So I broke 100 lbs at a gallop and haven't seen those days in 20 years. I'm fat. I AM sedentary, maybe I'm even lazy (usually being defined as someone who just doesn't enjoy running around sweating in the sun to chase some stupid ball, or doesn't find jumping up and down in a room full of strangers a trip). I'd rather read or sew. Now, if you've enjoyed all your lifestyle changes, try counting your blessings and think about how lucky you are. There are probably more people like me around, who spend our days having to do things that we DON'T enjoy, than like you who have done so well and enjoyed the process. ly, I hate this. Sure, it's probably the best thing that could have happened to me, because it forces me to do what is good for me. Whoopie. (Can you sense the lack of enthusiasm?) I'd prefer, quite honestly, if what was good for me was a huge chocolate chip brownie fudge sudae, topped off by a long nap and a quiet afternoon at my sewing machine. I try to keep a good attitude about it, because life is what it is, and my resentment won't change facts. But maybe a reminder that it's harder for someone else will make us a bit more sensitive to them. Sharon
