Guest guest
Girl, I cried buckets during my pregnancy knowing that I was gaining weight. I love this little boy with every fiber of my being, and I was tremendously excited about being pregnant for the very first time, but the emotional trauma of going up the scale was almost too much to bear sometimes. I'm still fighting it, too. I'm not losing like I want to (NO... translate that I'M STILL GAINING), and I'm starting to think I might need to be on an anti-anxiety med, which means I will be trying to wean Isaac to a bottle. I *love* breastfeeding him, but I am to the breaking point of not losing weight, and it's affecting everything in my life... the way I interact with the girls... with Rick... I can't wear any of my skinny clothes from two summers ago and I'm literally feeling RAGE about it... which then causes me to go off on my ADHD daughter who can't help her impulsiveness... I have to tell you, guys, I'm pretty much at the bottom. I hate the way I look. I hate the clothes I've bought in the Big/Tall Men's department at Wal-Mart because they're the only shirts that are roomy and long enough for me to be comfortable breastfeeding. I resent that I had surgery and went through tremendous personal and family sacrifice... for nothing... Okay, can you tell I'm in an emotional heap today? I'm scared of gaining too much, too. I'm 15 weeks along and lost 5 pounds...AT FIRST, but now I've gained back those 5 pounds plus 1.5 more. Try not to worry too much. Just eat right and you won't have anything to worry about. Are you eating right? Guest guest
Been there. Doing that. I cried when I was only in size 12's for one week. I have only gained 8 pounds as far as I know (I am 22 weeks out and get weighed next week again). I have people telling me I look thinner like I am losing but I can't fit into any thing that I have. I had to go back out and buy sweat pants and stretchy waistline clothes! Just think though. In a few months I will lose a bit at once -- baby will be in arms. Not my tummy! Rasley mailto:drasley@... Guest guest
for nothing... I think not Kris!. For many reasons all of which you know. Well girls reading all this reminds me that I will probably nevre be over my food isues and addictions. I can only hope that the surgery will continue to provide me ( over the long time, past pregnancy) with the tools that I need to deal as effectively as is possible with these issues. I went to the doc for 2 month check up yesterday and gained 4 pounds since last mo. I know I am not eating as well as I could be and I also know that I am prone to any excuse to do so. Pregnancy being a helluva one. I stil love to eat and have been overeating lately to the point of uncomfortably full. From my first moments of queasiness I used the excuse of not letting your stomach get empty will prevent morning sickness. I am just trying to keep a presence of mind about it all. and hopefully have a healthy pregnancy and baby. Even if thats all that results from my surgery I will be very happy. But I sure hope I can eventually maintain a healthy weight. Good luck to all of us Lenore At 11:24 AM 3/22/00 -0500, you wrote: >From: ministrwif@... > >Girl, I cried buckets during my pregnancy knowing that I was gaining weight. >I love this little boy with every fiber of my being, and I was tremendously >excited about being pregnant for the very first time, but the emotional >trauma of going up the scale was almost too much to bear sometimes. > >I'm still fighting it, too. Guest guest
Crystal, I am almost 17 weeks and I have also gained 5 pounds since I found out that I was pregnant. I also feel that I am HUGE and had to dig out the old stretch pants again... But I will tell you what my OB told me. A " skinny " woman usually gains 10-15 pounds the first trimester...... so we are not doing so bad. ;o) I went back to the doc last Monday and I had lost 7 pounds. That 5 plus 2 more. She was a very happy doctor!! But I haven't been doing anything any differently. Guest guest
sandy i am 37 wks and just started gaining last week . i think i was about 290-285ish in june and got prego in july and got down to 264 while being prego. i stayed there forever and now im up to 272 on my scale. the dr said they think i was 284? or something when I came in, then they think maybe 275 so anyway on their scale I have gained one pound during preg. so far, BUT ALL I DO IS EAT! Im like you, I crave food, think about food, eat eat eat food. Im getting sick of it and hope the desire goes away. It has gotten REALLY bad this past week. Guest guest
It's probably the medication. I gained lots of weight after being on lithium (mood stabilizer) for a while because it slows the metabolism. My thyroid went south, too. It's taken me two years to lose 2-3 dress sizes. On the other hand, both my daughter and my mother were on Neurontin and didn't gain any weight. Daughter craved carbs when she was taking risperdone for two days, and was eating like mad. Not her usual style, as most of the time she's not interested in food. There may be eating disorder issues as well, but I think all of the atypical antipsychotics are linked to weight gain (and diabetes). One of my friends became diabetic on zyprexa, but didn't gain weight while she was on it. She said it was good for avoiding psychosis, though, so what you do may depend on what you value more highly. In your place, I would ask her doc to test her blood glucose and her thyroid, say, every 3 months. If she's on the edge (subclinical thyroid) have her checked by an endocrinologist / specialist in thyroid. I know it's not done very often in the USA because docs tend to diagnose as per test results instead of symptoms, but if it were my daughter I would still insist. Weight gain I am wondering what other parents do about weight gain in their BPD children. My daughter has also been on the slightly heavy side (born at 9 lb 12 oz and only 20 " ) and I never cared as long as she was within a healthy range. During her last hospitalization, however, they really let her eat way too much and she gained 12 pounds in 17 days. So at age 11 and only 5' tall, she is now weighing at least 130. I realize the mood stabilizer makes her appetite increase, but the amount of food she is eating these days would make a 6' tall male gain weight. Every meal she is eating about three times what she used to, plus she is asking every hour to eat more. I feel like the food police just trying to keep her from becoming completely obese. None of the clothes that fit her when she went in the hospital fit her anymore and that is another issue. With all her medical bills, I don't want to also be replacing her wardrobe every few months because she is eating like this. What do other people do? I also realize that part of BPD can be to be impulsive about eating. She even says she is not even hungry most of the time that she eats, but that she feels like she must eat. Another issue is that when she gets depressed or rages she starts talking about how horrible a person she is because she eats too much and that was before this latest weight gain. We are very careful to not say things to make her self conscious, but kids and other " well meaning " adults say stuff. BTW, I do require that my all my kids exercise three days a week. We home school, so that is their PE. Maureen
Guest guest
Maureen, I too, two years ago, had this prob. w/my 15 BPD daughter. She wound up with an eating disorder, binging and purging, losing about 30 pounds in 3 weeks. She wound up with stomach problems and now problems with enamel loss on her teeth. She has since stopped, but the damage is done. She went to a hosp. for the eating disorder, but since insurance fails me everytime, only spent 6 days there, which accomplished nothing, except funded the hospital with who knows how much money. I cannot watch over her 24/7, and it seemed she was doing this for quite a long time without my knowledge. I only saw what was happening, after the fact, when I noticed her weight loss. All the mood stabilizing drugs that were tried on her either made her lose weight, or gain weight. The latter made her start with the eating disorder, so hence, none of the pills she was taking were workig. Sorry I couldnt be of more help.
