Lidex is a corticosteroid (fluocinionide) which should relieve itching and inflammation. However, steroid creams can also thin the skin and cause chemical burns if you use too much or use it long term. Most doctors prescribe it to be used for daily for two weeks and then on a limited basis after that. I wouldn't think it could have done any harm yet, but you maybe reacting to the steroid or the inactive ingredients. I've never tried the prescription steroid creams, but I think women who have who haven't seen any improvement within a few weeks discontinue the cream. I'm sure others who have used steroid creams can provide more information. Guest guest
Hi Kay, Lidex is a steroid ointment and it's not the same thing as Lidocaine, which I understand to be just a temporary numbing agent. And I have a vulvar specialist who did a biopsy and a colposcopy and has had me on one protocol prior to this (Elidel) which didn't work. My diagnosis is sqamous hyperplasia due to a sweat gland disorder. Guest guest
Have you tried antishitamine topically? Like Benedryl Cream? I was afraid to use the cream, afraid of reactions so I used the childrens dye and alcohol free (which is taken by mouth by children) topically on my vulvar skin. I started with one small area at a time - so that if I were going to react to anything in it, it would only be on a small spot. Sometimes - I'm not saying this is so in your case - the water can be too drying if you are doing it frequently. By that I mean that several women (early on in my participation here on the list) suggested rinsing after each urination. After doing this for several days, I became very irritated and chapped, much like the chapped lips (forgive the pun) we all sometimes get. -----Original Message-----From: Irene Sent: Tuesday, September 28, 2004 2:19 PMTo: VulvarDisorders Subject: Lidex and Aveeno soaks/not helping yetI'm wondering how long it takes Lidex to be effective against vulvar itching. Will just continue with that and the Lidex. Guest guest
Hi - I didn't know that there was a benedryl cream. Is it prescription or OTC? I'm going to call the PA at my docs and do a sanity check on why Lidex wouldn't work after 12 days and if I need to be on some other protocol. I'll ask about topical antihistamines. I've only been soaking once a day so I doubt it's the water. I just have this strange feeling I might have become sensitive to colloidal oatmeal, but have no way of knowing. Is there any other sitz bath effective against itching? Baking soda? Tee tree oil? Thanks, Irene > Have you tried antishitamine topically?
