I checked the box of Banana Nut Oatmeal as you suggested. The carbs

are 28. Since I do not add fruit or any other items to breakfast,

this does not seem too bad to me. The Sara Lee low-carb bread is

pretty good and I use it to toast and add peanut butter.

Hi

a lot of breakfast cereal is bad as its heavily loaded with sugar and/or

salt

an egg a week is ok i believe but too many is a fat and chloestorol risk

porridge made from jumbo oats with skimmed milk is pretty good as it has a

slow release of energy and some heart protective quality. I sometimes use

unsweetened rice-milk substitute and sometimes add dried fruit of prunes. I

cook mine for 10 mts on slow in a microwave, otherwise a think bottomed

cooking pot is a good idea.

Actually, it's also loaded with fast carbs. The only cold cereal I

can eat are all bran or fiber one - very high in fiber. And I can't

eat them in the morning, only in the afternoon or evening, as any

grain at all spikes me in the morning.

After diagnosis, I started eating eggs 5 out of 7 days. Didn't

affect my cholesterol one bit. The only thing that touched my

cholesterol is red wine every day - it doubled my HDL (the good

stuff). I'm just tired of eating so many eggs so am now eating

chicken some days or roast beef.

Protein isn't a problem for me since I don't have kidney issues ( a

common misconception is that high protein causes kidney trouble, it

doesn't, it only must be watched if one already has kidney issues).

Skim milk is commony used to combad low blood sugar as the sugar in

it gets into the system very fast because there is no fat to slow it

down. I don't go near the stuff - for BG and for taste reasons. I

use heavy cream for most things. If it's too thick, I add some water.

I bought some steel cut oatmeal last week, and along with some wheat

bran and flax meal, will start experimenting in trying to come up

with a hot cereal that doesn't spike me. I've bought some hot

cereals that ar flax based which are ok and don't spike me too much,

but are best later in the day.
