Guest guest
Also, if she is paying you be a 65 or 60 character line, the margins wouldn't make a difference. Guest guest
NO and this what I am questioning. She is paying by the page and peanuts at that. Guest guest
Have you done a line count on a few pages or reports and compared it to what she is paying you per page? As a subcontractor you will get less than your own accounts, but if it is less than the nationals pay with the page rate then it may not be worth doing. I don't understand why an IC would pay you by the page. I'm a subcontractor and the IC pays me by the character count w/spaces and told me to bill her that way. NO and this what I am questioning. She is paying by the page and peanuts at that. Guest guest
Not yet but I will. I just typed a 6-page report. The doctor is very good but if he mentioned the date of the MVA once more time, I would scream. He repeats everything. I am glad he is not my account. I planned to get the first tape done and then do a comparison. If I am wasting my time on little money then I will look elsewhere. I will stay with this one until something else comes on. She pays $1.25 per page. So yea it is peanuts. Guest guest
At one time, I did a little research on paying by the page. I figured $5.00 a page was about equal to .10 cents a gross line. At the time I was looking into this, the " regular typists " (for instance those who do straight copy typing or manuscripts off tapes or hard copy - no specialty learning of medical) were getting this price. this was over a year ago. If it isn't worth your while don't do it. I know that is easier said than done. Do it for a couple of months if you have to/want to, raise your price, if she drops you...at least it's on your resume and you've gained some experience. I don't have much experience with this as I've always been paid by gross line count and I think I've missed some posts on this. page count > > > > My new IC who has hired me as a sub contractor(?) has set the > following > > " use Times New Roman #12. Guest guest
Oh dear, I answered this post earlier but my email comes in backwards...$1.25 a page...don't even do it! There are approximately 50 lines per page. But that would depend on what you're doing, the margins, the set up,etc but I can't believe that 1.25 is okay at all! I am shocked that someone would " offer " to pay you that, even as an IC! The least I pay mine (at this point, which could change) is .06 a line, that's more like $3 a page. And I have to listen to the whole tape and make many, many corrections and print it out. Obviously I don't have IC's who have your knowledge! If you think it's an interesting account that would bring you some additional knowledge, that's up to you but don't let someone take advantage of you. Do it for your own reasons and then let it go, do whatever works for you. page count > > > > > > > My new IC who has hired me as a sub contractor(?) has set the > > following > > > " use Times New Roman #12. Guest guest
As you noted with later emails, I let them go. So far she has not responded to my email re this. When she first said 1.25 I thought it was low but I really wanted to check out what a page was. I have a friend MT who gets paid by the page and somewhere I read also that pages have a way of averaging itself out. But this client gave me a doctor who as far as I can see never dictates less than 2 pages and full with the margins as I mentioned 0 top and bottom and 1 right and left. Full only double spaces between paragraphs. So I did one tape and that is it. Good buy. I would love to know who she gets to do it. Thanks to all.
