Hi Janie, I lost a total of 48 lbs, though I did gain a few lbs back so my doctors would be happy. Three doctors thought I lost too much. They were very concerned. I have the best doctors in the world. Most of my weight was caused by steroids when I had cancer. When I decided that I was going to lose the weight so I could go off meds, I knew it would have to be done in a way that I could continue for the rest of my life. I cut back on food sizes and added more exercise to my schedule. I love to walk so I increased my walking. I do not enjoy going to a gym/taking exercise classes so I didn't even consider that. I knew I would not continue with those. I do have a treadmill that I use occasionally, but not on a regular basis. I use it when the weather is so bad that I can't walk outside. As much as I wanted to be skinny, I did not lose more than 4-6 lbs per month. It took me about 9 months to reach my goal, but it has stayed off for over 3 years. Since I was on meds for BP, my BP was normal. Once I lost the weight, my doctors told me to go off meds to see what would happen. Most of the time now, my BP is below 115/75 (except for those " stress " times), then I go for a walk or take a long, leisure, Lavender bath. lol hugs Eunice
Guest guest
Thanks Eunice. You sound like me. I was thinking of getting a treadmill for the same reason. I'm wondering if yours is manual or electric, and how you like it being manual or electric. (I had a cheap one in mind that is manual.) I have cancer too (breast). Recent research has ascertained that there is a higher survival rate among women who exercise. I've got to start a regular program instead of what I've been doing. Share with me anytime. Thanks. Guest guest
Sharon-- Have you thought of tunage? no--not an old fish--ha ha--but music. I put on my favorite 60s rock n roll tunes and go at my nordic track and bench stepping this way...and I always end with jimi Hendrix--Foxy Lady.... Guest guest
Eunice -- Yes, I may buy a treadmill, too, for exercise in bad weather. I was dx'd with breast cancer in July 2004, have had the surgery and no chemo or radiation, just tamoxifen or arimidex. (I'm trying both to see which I can tolerate better.) Feeling pretty good -- the outlook statistically is good, but I'm just at the beginning. Thrilled to hear you completed chemo 9 years ago. No treatment since then I guess?
